In the Shopware standard, users land on a 404 page when a product is deactivated or removed from the range. External links from search engines or social media therefore lead to dead ends.
We have therefore developed a plugin that offers the following advantages:
Automatic redirection
When an inactive product is accessed, the plugin automatically redirects customers to the defined category or successor product. This keeps visitors in the shop and helps them easily find alternatives.
Flexible control for search engines
The redirect status can be individually defined. Search engines receive either a 404, 301, or 302 response, while customers in the frontend do not notice any difference.
Intelligent fallback
If no category or successor product is assigned, the redirection will go to the homepage or a classic 404 page. If multiple categories are assigned, the plugin automatically uses the main category of the active sales channel.
Support for sell-out products
Sell-out products are also taken into account, provided the option “Hide products after end of sale” is activated.
