About the Extension

Picture this: It's the day before your friends birthday and you have forgotten to buy them a present. While slightly panicking, you try to think of what your friends likes and try to remember what their hobbies were. What will you buy your friend? Chances are it will be a giftcard.

Most of us recognise this panicky reaction or have experienced such a situation before. This is why giftcards are such a popular and practical solution: they are much more personal than cash and make buying a present easy.

With this plugin you can capitalise on the popularity of gift vouchers by making it easy for your customers to buy gift vouchers and redeem them at your shop.

The plugins allows the store admin to create a new type of product: Giftcards. The new administration screens also allow the administrator to manage, modify, export and import all existing receipts. A new voucher is also easy to create and send to a customer.

A customer can buy a giftcard through your webshop. When using the giftcard, the residual value is remembered. One giftcard can thus be used as a real payment method, until the value is fully used up. If not enough money is available on the card, another card, or a real payment method can be used to pay the difference.

Are issued gift cards "single-purpose vouchers" or "multi-purpose vouchers"?

When gift vouchers are sold in the European Union, they are either "single-purpose vouchers" or "multi-purpose vouchers." It is important to understand the difference between these as this makes a difference in relation to how VAT is calculated. All gift vouchers sold through this plugin are considered "multi-purpose". VAT is calculated when the voucher is submitted. No VAT is calculated when the gift voucher is purchased. The plugin does not currently support "single-purpose vouchers". If this is required for you, you can take an export of all gift vouchers and perform the necessary VAT calculations manually.

Can giftcards be used in my online store, as well as in my 'real' store?

The plugin is provided to integrate with external systems. So building an integration with our plugin and your desired gift certificate provider should be relatively easy. Integrating a POS system is also easy due to the API-first setup of Shopware and the plugin. Here, while the management of gift cards can be entirely within Shopware, they can also be used in your physical store.
