Every payment method has its price. PayPal, credit card, Klarna – fees add up. Meanwhile, cash sits idle because customers rarely choose prepayment.

This plugin puts you back in control.

Define a percentage surcharge, a fixed amount, or a combination of both for any payment method. Or turn the tables: offer discounts for cost-effective payment options like prepayment or invoice.

How it works

Configuration happens where you expect it: directly in the settings of each payment method. No separate menu, no detours.

Choose the mode – surcharge or discount. Enter your values. Done.

The amount appears as a separate line item in the cart. Transparent for the customer, correct on the invoice, clean in your accounting.

Intelligent control with the Rule Builder

Not every surcharge fits every customer. With the integrated Rule Builder connection, you define exactly when a surcharge or discount applies:

- Guest customers only

- Above a certain cart value

- For selected customer groups

- In specific sales channels

Tax-compliant

The plugin calculates VAT automatically. In auto mode, the highest tax rate from the cart is used. Alternatively, set a fixed tax rate per payment method.

Two real-world scenarios

Scenario 1: Service fee for American Express (Amex)

The payment provider charges you 2.49% + €0.35 per transaction. Configure a surcharge of 2.5% + €0.35 and pass the costs on transparently.

For a cart of €80, the customer sees:

- Subtotal: €80.00

- Payment method fee: €2.35

- Total: €82.35

Scenario 2: Discount for prepayment

Reward customers who pay by bank transfer. Configure a 2% discount and secure fast liquidity at zero transaction cost.

For a cart of €150, the customer sees:

- Subtotal: €150.00

- Payment method discount: -€3.00

- Total: €147.00

Is it legal to charge payment surcharges?

The charging of payment surcharges may be subject to legal restrictions. In the EU, Switzerland, and other countries, regulations vary depending on the payment method. Surcharges may be prohibited for SEPA payments and regulated debit or credit cards. For other payment methods, surcharges may be permitted. Please check the legal situation for the payment methods you offer in your country.

How is tax calculated?

In auto mode, the plugin uses the highest tax rate present in the current cart. Alternatively, you can set a fixed tax rate for each payment method.

Can I activate surcharges/discounts only for specific customers?

Yes. Through the Rule Builder integration, you can assign Shopware rules. This allows surcharges/discounts to be activated only for guest customers, above a minimum order value, or for specific customer groups.

Where does the surcharge/discount appear in checkout?

The surcharge/discount is displayed as a separate line item in the cart, e.g., "Payment method surcharge (2.5%)". It also appears on the order confirmation and invoice.

Does the plugin work with all payment methods?

Yes. The plugin works with all payment methods configured in Shopware – both standard payment methods and third-party plugins like PayPal, Mollie, or Stripe.

What happens when the customer switches payment methods?

The surcharge is automatically recalculated. If the customer switches from PayPal (with surcharge) to prepayment (with discount), the cart updates in real-time.

Are discounts displayed as negative amounts?

Yes. In discount mode, the amount is shown as a negative value, e.g., "Payment method discount: -€3.00".
