About the Extension

Purpose of the plugin

In the standard Shopware version, input fields such as name, telephone number or email address cannot be validated individually. This means that customers can enter incorrect or incomplete information, which can lead to problems.

We have therefore developed a plugin that enables flexible and precise input validation:

Custom input fields with validation
In addition to the standard fields, you can also create your own input fields and apply the same validation rules to them. These can be flexibly grouped to create clear form sections. Furthermore, visibility rules can be defined so that fields are only displayed under certain conditions, for example, when a specific value has been selected in another field. Predefined options, including default selections, can be stored for selection fields (drop-downs).
File upload for trade licence and supporting documents
In addition, a file upload field can be set up to upload documents such as a trade licence directly during registration. Permitted file extensions can be specified to allow only certain file formats.

Flexible validation with regular expressions
The plugin allows you to define your own rules for each input field in the form of regular expressions (RegEx). This allows you to specify exactly which characters or formats are allowed – for example, only letters, numbers or a specific pattern for telephone numbers or postcodes.

Customised info texts and error messages
Multilingual info texts and error messages can be stored for each field. This provides customers with direct support when filling out forms and gives them clear instructions if their entries do not meet the requirements.

Installation

Open Plugin Manager via Settings > System > Plugins.
Upload, install and activate the plugin.

General settings

Sales channel
Select the sales channel for which the validations should be active (default: all sales channels)
Floating labels
Enables modern floating labels for input fields.

Field-specific settings
The following options are available for each field (email, first name, last name, password, postcode, city, street, telephone number, company):

Enable validation
Enables or disables input validation for the respective field.
Maximum number of characters
Specifies the maximum number of characters that may be entered.
Info text below the input field
Optional note explaining to the user what is expected.
Regular expression
A pattern can be stored here to check the input (e.g. ^[A-Za-z]+$ for letters only).
Error message for invalid input
Custom message that appears when the input does not comply with the rules.

Configure custom input fields

Settings > Extensions > Custom input fields > Add input field

Basic settings

Internal name
Name of the field in the admin area
Storage type
Defines where the field is stored. By default, a new additional field is created on the customer object.
Entity
Specifies which data type the field belongs to (default: customer)
Technical name
The technical name of the new additional field must be unique and cannot be changed later.
Active
Enables or disables the field for use in the front end.
Assigned rule
Specifies the conditions under which the field is displayed.
Order
Specifies the order in which it appears when there are multiple fields.

Display settings

Position on the registration page
Determines where the field is displayed during registration (e.g. above the address fields).
Position on the profile page
Specifies whether the field appears in the customer profile.
Title / placeholder text
Defines the visible label and placeholder text in the input field.

Functionality

Input field type
Select from different types (e.g. single-line text field).
Mandatory field
Enables the field to be mandatory.
Character limit
Sets the maximum length of the input.
Expert mode
Enables advanced settings such as RegEx validations and error messages.
Visibility restrictions
Allows you to link the display of the field to specific conditions.

Groups of custom input fields

Settings > Extensions > Custom input fields > Group of custom input fields > Add

Internal name
Name of the group in the admin area
Active
Activates or deactivates the group. Only active groups are displayed in the frontend.
Priority
Determines the order of the groups in the form.
Heading
Text that is displayed above the group in the frontend
Assigned input fields
Selection of the user-defined input fields that should belong to this group.

Input field options

Settings > Extensions > Customer-specific input fields > Input field options

Internal ID
Name of the option in the admin area
Input field option
Name or visible text of the selection option as it appears in the front end.
Position
Determines the order in which the options are displayed in the drop-down menu.
Assigned input field
Selects which input field this option belongs to.
Pre-selected
Determines whether this option should be pre-selected in the form by default.

Visibility restrictions

Settings > Extensions > Custom input fields > Visibility restrictions

Field (visibility is restricted)
Selects the input field whose display is to be controlled.
Field (to restrict visibility
Selects the field whose value serves as a condition (e.g. ‘Customer type’ or ‘Company’).
Operator
Defines the condition.
Field value
Value that must be met for the field to be displayed.
