About the Extension

Purpose of the Plugin

In Shopware, categories are displayed by default to all customers within a sales channel. However, exclusive assortments, protected areas or different offerings for B2B and B2C customers often require individual access permissions.

Release categories for customer groups
Categories can be assigned directly to one or more customer groups within the category administration. In the storefront, they are then displayed only to customers whose customer group has access to the respective category. Available categories can alternatively also be managed directly within the respective customer group.

Control categories using Rule Builder rules
In addition to fixed customer groups, Rule Builder rules can be used to control access. This makes it possible to determine visibility based on the sales channel, shipping country, customer status or other conditions available in the Rule Builder. If multiple customer groups or rules are assigned, they are evaluated using OR logic.

Automatically adjust the navigation
Categories that are not available are automatically removed from the storefront navigation. Subcategories and associated breadcrumbs are also taken into account. Customers therefore only see navigation items they are actually permitted to access.

Prevent direct access to restricted categories
Categories that are not available can not only be hidden from the navigation, but also blocked when accessed directly through their URL. Protected assortments therefore remain hidden even when a category link is already known or opened externally.

Adapt product display to category permissions
Optionally, products are only displayed in product listings and their product detail pages can only be opened if they are assigned to at least one available category. If a product is assigned to multiple categories, the plugin configuration determines how these assignments are evaluated during the visibility check.

Hide products from search
Product search can also be linked to category permissions. Products that are not assigned to an available category are removed from search results and search suggestions. Restricted products therefore cannot be found through the search function.

Define the behavior for categories without assignments
The plugin configuration determines how categories are handled when neither a customer group nor a rule has been assigned. Depending on the desired shop structure, these categories can either be released or restricted by default.

Exclude categories and products from the sitemap
Categories can be excluded specifically from the sitemap. Optionally, associated products are also removed as soon as they are assigned to a category excluded from the sitemap. Protected content is therefore not included in the sitemap or unnecessarily submitted to search engines.
