Highlights

Disable or hide categories without active products (plugin setting).
Also considers categories with dynamic product groups
Categories with experience worlds or links are not deactivated or hidden.
By means of daily Scheduled Task the categories are deactivated / activated or hidden / shown.

About the Extension

Plugin configuration

After installation, 2 modes are available in the plugin configuration:

Activate "Hide in navigation" (category is still included in sitemap and can be called up in the store) (=default, for plugin installation).

Deactivate category (category is no longer included in sitemap and can no longer be called up in the store)

Functionality

A Scheduled Task "acris_category_check" will be installed - it will be called every 24 hours after the plugin installation.

After each execution of the Scheduled Task, all categories without active products or categories without active products in dynamic product groups are hidden or deactivated. If hidden or deactivated categories contain active products again, these categories will be shown / activated again.
Intelligent check if categories contain "active" products:
> Categories with assigned dynamic product groups are not hidden.
> Categories with assigned dynamic product groups are hidden if they do not contain "active" products.
> Categories with experience world assignments are not hidden.
> Categories with assigned links are not hidden
> Products with no stock level and sales become active = corresponds to a non-active product
(Requirement: Settings > Products > Hide products after end of sale must be activ)

Categories without product assignments (experience worlds, structure categories, etc.) are not hidden or deactivated.

The execution time or the frequency of the Scheduled Task can be viewed / changed via the tool https://store.shopware.com/frosh12599847132f/tools.html.

Requirements

For the Scheduled Task and the Message Queue to work properly, they must be set up:

Is there a possibility to hide / disable categories permanently although active products are assigned ?

Yes, the plugin remembers which categories were disabled / deactivated via cronjob - only these will be reactivated when active products are assigned again. If categories are deactivated "manually" in the admin area, then they also remain deactivated.

Can there be problems if I change the mode from "hide" to "disable" in the plugin configuration ?

The plugin installs a cronjob which is executed every 24 hours. The cronjob uses the current plugin configuration and works with these settings. The cronjob therefore uses either the "hide" or the "disable" mode. Therefore, when changing modes, make sure to check if the cronjob has already been run once with the "old" mode - in this case, the "old" settings will not be changed by the "new" mode. Example: If the "hide" mode is selected first and the cronjob "hides" categories without products and then the plugin mode is changed to "disable", then the next cronjob run will also "disable" the categories but the "hidden" status will not be changed.
