About the Extension

Purpose of the plugin

In the standard version of Shopware, there is no built-in way to automatically convert lengthy and often confusing product descriptions into concise, easy-to-understand summaries.

We have therefore developed a plugin that uses artificial intelligence to create concise and engaging product summaries and displays them flexibly within the shop.

AI-based product summaries
The plugin automatically generates short, easy-to-understand summaries from existing, often very long product descriptions. This allows customers to see the most important information at a glance, without having to read through lengthy texts. The length and level of detail of the summaries can be customised.

Flexible generation
There are two flexible options available for generating summaries. On the one hand, summaries can be generated for specific products at the touch of a button. On the other hand, summaries can be generated automatically for all products in the background, thereby significantly reducing the maintenance workload. The product summaries can also be generated in various languages, making them ideal for international shops.

Flexible placement on the storefront
The generated summaries can be positioned flexibly on the product detail page. Whether above the description, below it, to the side, or as a complete replacement for the original description.

Important note regarding use

An active OpenAI account is required to use the plugin. Using the AI services may incur additional costs. We therefore recommend leaving automatic background generation disabled initially (default setting) to better manage usage and the associated costs.

Do I need my own OpenAI API key?

Yes, you must use your own API key.

How can I create an OpenAI account or generate an API key?

1) Create an account at https://platform.openai.com 2) Navigate to https://platform.openai.com/api-keys 3. click on ‘Create new secret key 4. give the key a name (e.g. AcrisProductDescriptionSummarizerOpenAIKey) and click on ‘Create secret key’ 5. copy the key and store it safely 6. paste the key into the corresponding field in the plugin config The use of the key can be viewed at https://platform.openai.com/usage The OpenAI account can be topped up with credit at https://platform.openai.com/settings/organization/billing/overview The maximum usage can be limited (you should not upload too much at the beginning, as the credit expires after one year (e.g. $100 paid in, $2 used, $98 is no longer available after one year and cannot be refunded).

Are the original descriptions replaced?

No, the original descriptions remain saved while additional summaries are generated. In the storefront, either both or only the summary can be displayed.

Can product variants have their own summaries?

Yes, you can decouple the inheritance of summaries.
