About the Extension
The Breadcrumb in Shopware
The breadcrumb serves as a secondary navigation element that helps visitors orient themselves and navigate back to previous levels. However, the breadcrumb has much more potential to make navigation within the shop easier. With the Enhanced Breadcrumb plugin, you not only gain various styling and usability improvements — visitors can also navigate forward into deeper levels, allowing them to reach their destinations faster.
Features
Scrollable Breadcrumb
By default, long breadcrumbs wrap onto multiple lines, which can be inconvenient, especially on mobile devices. With the enhanced breadcrumb, visitors can scroll horizontally within the breadcrumb so that it always remains on a single line and important content stays visible at the top of the page. The plugin lets you configure at which screen width the breadcrumb should no longer be scrollable. When scrolling is enabled, the breadcrumb automatically scrolls to the active link on page load. Scrollbars can be made visible, or a subtle gradient can indicate scrollability to the user.
Forward Navigation
The innovative forward navigation allows visitors to move into deeper category levels directly through the breadcrumb, without losing track in the main navigation. Deeper levels are visually distinguished, clearly indicating that further navigation is possible. To prevent overly long breadcrumbs, you can limit the number of displayed categories so that forward navigation is only shown where it makes sense.
Sticky Breadcrumb
The breadcrumb can be fixed to the top of the screen, ensuring visitors always maintain orientation and have quick access to navigation through the breadcrumb.
Show Last Visited Category
If visitors activate this option in the consent tool, the breadcrumb of the last visited category will be displayed instead of the one directly assigned to the product. This prevents users from landing in unrelated categories when navigating via the breadcrumb.
Home Link in the Breadcrumb
The enhanced breadcrumb allows adding a link to the homepage within the breadcrumb. The link text can include the shop name or any custom label, easily adjustable via a text snippet.
Remove Active Link
The link for the active category can be removed to avoid unnecessary internal linking and prevent visitors from thinking they can navigate backward by clicking the active breadcrumb item.
Display Product Name in the Breadcrumb
The name of the currently viewed product can be displayed in the breadcrumb. This makes it clear to visitors that they are on the product detail page and aligns the breadcrumb behavior with that on category pages.
Various Styling Options
Font size, link colors, background color, scrollbar color (if visible scrollbars are enabled), rounded corners, and forward navigation styling can all be configured directly within the plugin settings — no custom theme adjustments required.
