AI Content Label – AI image disclosure

About the Extension
Label AI images properly – without touching your files
Article 50 of the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) applies since 2 August 2026. Anyone publishing image content that was generated or altered by AI, and that realistically resembles real people, places or events, must disclose it – no later than the first time the content is perceived, clearly recognisable and accessible.
AI Content Label handles that disclosure for your Shopware 6 shop. You mark an image once, and the plugin shows the label wherever that image appears – plus it writes a machine-readable marking into the markup.
Set it up once, then it runs
Create a media folder for your AI images and select it in the configuration. That is the setup. Every image in that folder now carries the label – in shopping experiences, in the product gallery, in the listing card, in the cart. You never need to remember where a motif is used.
Subfolders inherit the setting. Individual images outside the watched folders can be switched on with a single click.
Overlay instead of interference
The label is placed over the image as the page is built. Your originals and thumbnails stay untouched. That means no risk to your media library, no re-uploading, and text, colour and position can be changed at any time without regenerating a single image.
Full control over the appearance
- Three shapes: pill, bar across the full edge, or plain text with no surface
- Stepless position on any of the four edges, horizontal or rotated
- Size scales with the image, with your own lower and upper limits
- Separate values for mobile devices
- Automatic short form when the full text no longer fits
Every setting applies globally, per folder or per image – and per field: an image can inherit the global colour and still carry its own position.
Readability is part of the duty
Article 50(5) requires accessible disclosure. The plugin measures contrast against the actual image region according to WCAG and shows it as a traffic light. On request it suggests matching colours, checked against the threshold beforehand. The full text is always available to screen readers – even when only the short form is visible.
Diagnosis: checks whether it really arrives
Some themes assemble their images themselves and bypass Shopware's standard output. The built-in diagnosis checks the real page response for whether the label was actually delivered, and additionally scans themes, plugins and apps for places that could bypass it.
If it finds one, you get a ready-made, factually worded message for the theme vendor – in German and English, copyable at the press of a button. An optional safety net adds the label at these places server-side.
Built for large catalogues
Bulk actions set state, text, position or colours for thousands of images at once – in the background, with a progress bar and full undo. Fields you do not touch remain unchanged.
Known limits
- Developed and tested against the Shopware default theme. Third-party themes generally work but are not individually verified – that is what the diagnosis is for.
- If a theme embeds an image as a CSS background, it cannot be labelled. The diagnosis reports such places.
- Quickview is not part of the Shopware core and is not covered.
- The label is shown as an overlay, not burned into the image. An image saved via right-click therefore does not carry it.
Important note on responsibility
AI Content Label is a supporting tool – not proof of legal compliance and not legal advice. The duty to comply with Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 lies and remains with the operator of the online shop.
The plugin cannot judge which of your images require labelling, whether the chosen wording is appropriate, whether the label appears at every location relevant to you, or whether the chosen appearance is clearly recognisable in your theme, on your devices and with your motifs. The actual visibility in particular is yours to verify.
Please check the result in your storefront – including on mobile devices – and seek legal advice if in doubt. Gründerkind GmbH accepts no liability for the legal compliance of your shop.
