ESD License Management: sell digital products fully automatically

Sell software keys, activation codes and digital licenses just as easily as physical products – but without the manual work and without ever overselling. ConEsd handles the entire process for you, from checkout to delivery: license keys are reserved during checkout, issued automatically once payment is confirmed, and released again on cancellation. Your product stock always stays in real-time sync with the number of keys actually available in the pool.

Why not just use the Shopware standard?

Shopware's built-in ESD function delivers files. ConEsd manages finite key inventories: it reserves, issues and cancels individual keys along the payment status, keeps stock accurate down to the last key, and prevents the same key from being handed out twice – even under concurrent orders.

No overselling, even under load

Reservation is atomic and race-condition-safe. When two customers check out at the same time, each receives a unique key and your stock never drops below zero. This is the core difference to simple "reduce stock on sale" approaches.

Installation and activation

Install and activate the plugin in the administration under Extensions → My extensions.
Then activate the plugin per sales channel (see the "Configuration" section).

Operational requirement: A messenger worker must be running for automatic license issuing and cancellation (bin/console messenger:consume async). Reservation at checkout also works without the worker, since it runs synchronously.

Configuration per sales channel

You can find the settings under Settings → Extensions → ESD License Management ("License issuing" card):

Plugin active: Enables license processing for the selected sales channel.
Transaction status for issuing: The payment status at which licenses are issued automatically, usually "Paid".
Transaction status for cancellation: The status at which licenses are cancelled or released again.
Send license keys by email: Whether the keys appear directly in the email or only a link to the customer account is sent.

Reservation at checkout always happens as soon as the plugin is active for the sales channel, regardless of the status settings.

Creating license pools

Open Catalogues → ESD license pools in the administration.
Create a new pool via Add pool.
The name is a required field; description, active status and a low-stock threshold are optional.
Save.

Pools can also be created automatically during license import.

Importing licenses

Licenses are imported using the native Shopware Import/Export feature. The plugin provides the "ESD License" profile for this purpose. The CSV file is semicolon-separated and contains the columns License code, Pool, Pool description and Creation date.

Open Settings → Import/Export.
Under "Import", select the "ESD License" profile.
Upload the prepared CSV file and start the import.

The pool is matched by its name: if it already exists, the licenses are assigned to it; otherwise the pool is created automatically. Newly imported licenses are initially available.

Assigning a pool to a product

Open the desired product in the administration.
In the product detail view, select the section for the ESD license pool assignment.
Assign the matching pool and save.

From this point on, the product's stock corresponds to the number of available licenses in the pool and is updated automatically.

Setting up license delivery by email

License issuing triggers the "ESD licenses issued" event. This lets you configure email delivery freely in the Flow Builder.

Open Settings → Flow Builder.
Create a new flow based on the "ESD licenses issued" event.
Choose "Send email" as the action and use the included template or create your own.

Licenses are not issued after payment. What can I do?

Check whether the messenger worker is running (bin/console messenger:consume async) and whether the correct transaction status for issuing is configured.

Why does an order fail?

In this case there are not enough available licenses in the assigned pool. Refill the pool via CSV import.

The product stock does not match the expected quantity. What is the reason?

The stock is automatically derived from the available licenses in the assigned pool. Check the pool assignment and the actual license stock or start the product indexer.

The customer does not receive an email with the license keys. What is missing?

An active flow for the "Licenses issued" event is required in the Flow Builder for the email to be sent.

The plugin does not react in the shop. What should be checked?

Make sure the plugin is activated for the respective sales channel in the settings.
