About the Extension
Your customers create a gift registry, share it by link, and their guests buy the wishes in your shop. Delivery goes to the creator with the address masked: the givers never see it.
A logged-in customer creates a list for their occasion in their account, fills it from your catalogue and shares it through an unguessable link or a readable short link on your own domain. The guests open the link, see what is still open and order from you as usual. They need no account for that, a guest order is enough. Every wish is bought only as often as it was wished for.
The problem you know
A wedding, a birth, a housewarming, a milestone birthday or Christmas always produces a wish list. It just rarely appears in your shop:
- On the big marketplace. The list is set up there in two minutes, and the entire circle of guests shops there instead of with you.
- As a spreadsheet or PDF in a group chat. Nobody knows what is already taken. Two identical toasters end up on the gift table.
- Through the standard wishlist. It is private, cannot be shared and has no duplicate-purchase protection.
- Not at all. Because the recipient does not want to hand their home address to twenty guests.
What you lose is not a single order but the basket of an entire circle of guests. And anyone building it themselves hits the same wall: as soon as a stranger has something delivered to a third person, that person's full address appears on the buyer's order confirmation, invoice and customer account.
How „Gift Registry & Wishlist" solves it
- The list lives in your shop. Created in the customer account, filled from your catalogue, shared through an unguessable link. Without the link nobody finds the list, search engines included.
- Address privacy across everything the buyer sees. Order view, order confirmation, status mails and documents show the giver a display name instead of the address. Shipping, accounting and ERP keep the real address unchanged.
- Duplicate-purchase protection through a real quantity ledger. Wished, reserved and bought are tracked per wish. If an order is cancelled, the quantity is released again automatically.
- The surprise survives. The creator can be notified without learning what was bought.
The benefits at a glance
- One occasion brings many buyers instead of a single purchase.
- Extra revenue on every gift, because wrapping, a card or a ribbon can be booked on each gift line separately.
- New customers without ad spend, because the guests arrive on a personal recommendation.
- No wish is bought twice, because reservations and orders are counted against the wish continuously.
- Privacy built in instead of something you have to engineer yourself.
Typical use cases
Wedding: The couple puts their list together and adds the link to the invitation. Guests buy over several weeks, everyone sees what is still open, and the gifts arrive together at the couple without a single guest learning their address.
Birth and baby shower: Expectant parents collect the first essentials. Surprise protection means they learn that something was bought, but not what.
Housewarming: Anyone moving or building needs many things at once. The list organises the circle of guests instead of five people bringing the same thing.
Milestone birthday: The celebrant shares the list in the family chat. Whoever wants to can reserve a wish and buy it later at their own pace.
Christmas: A family keeps one list per person and swaps the links. Everyone sees what is already taken, and nobody has to ask around in December.
Features in detail
Creating and sharing a list
A four-step assistant covers occasion, recipient, visibility and details, all on one page and with a single submit: no draft, no half-saved state, nothing to clean up. Without JavaScript what remains is exactly the single form the assistant replaces. The title is the only required field. A list carries a display name, a date, a location and an introductory text.
Sharing works through a link with an unguessable token. On top of that a list can carry a readable short link on your own domain, such as yourshop.com/gift-registry/anna-and-ben - you set the prefix per sales channel, the creator picks the last part. A password can protect the list, and a private list stays unreachable even with the link. All list pages are set to noindex, nofollow.
Address masking with two delivery modes
The creator decides per list:
- To me (masked): The gifts go to their stored address. The giver only ever sees the display name and a placeholder.
- To the giver: Every guest receives their gift at home and hands it over in person. Nothing is masked, and no address of the creator is needed.
You write the placeholder wording yourself, line by line and per sales channel; wherever you leave it empty, the supplied wording applies. Whether the delivery note inside the parcel shows the real address is a separate setting. The billing address always stays the giver's own, so their invoice is correct.
The delivery mode also governs what else may share the cart. A masked list carries exactly one recipient and therefore travels alone; lists that ship to the giver may be bought together, several at a time, alongside the buyer's own products. Own products next to a masked list are something you allow per sales channel and the creator has to agree as well - the cart then marks every affected line.
Wishes from your shop and beyond
Wishes are added through product search, through the „add to wishlist" button on the product page or in the cart. Each wish can carry a quantity, a priority and a note - six identical glasses appear once on the list and are bought by six guests individually. A variant counts as its own product, so a wish hits exactly the size or colour that was meant. The creator can also enter their own wishes, a trip or a donation for example. Those sit in their own section, carry at most a link and are deliberately not purchasable through your shop.
Quantities, reservations and duplicate-purchase protection
Every wish keeps a quantity ledger. Adding to the cart blocks nothing yet: each recalculation checks the open quantity, a line that has meanwhile been fulfilled is removed with a notice, and a partly fulfilled one is capped. Only the order creates a reservation, and only an order state you define turns it into a final purchase; a second state releases the quantity again. Optionally, logged-in guests may reserve a wish without buying it, with its own expiry. Expired reservations are cleared by a background task.
Gift options as surcharges
Wrapping, greeting card, ribbon: you maintain your own gift options with price and tax rate, optionally limited to certain occasions or controlled by an availability rule. The guest picks them per gift, and every choice appears as its own surcharge line in the order - buy five wishes from one list and the wrapping is charged five times. Gift options belong to the gift itself, so they stay orderable regardless of the delivery mode and regardless of whether own products are allowed alongside. Five examples ship switched off.
Notifications and surprise protection
The creator is notified on request as soon as a wish is reserved or gifted. With surprise protection switched on, the message names only the number, not the wish. They can also choose whether bought wishes are hidden or greyed out for the guests.
Reminders by background task
Five date-related reminders, each of which can be switched off individually and given its own time window: the date is approaching and wishes are still open; thank-yous are still pending after the date; a list has stayed empty; a guest's own reservation is expiring; a reserved wish is still open shortly before the date. A ledger prevents duplicate sends, and every recipient can unsubscribe from all of the plugin's mails permanently by link.
Thank-yous through the shop
After the celebration the creator sees in their account who gave what, as far as the giver released their name. They reply with a thank-you that the shop delivers masked: they never see the giver's email address, and the giver only sees the display name. One order makes one thank-you, even when it holds several wishes.
Moderating customer-generated content
Title, display name, description and external links come from your customers. For that there is a review workflow in the administration: mark a list as reviewed, block it with a reason that the creator sees in their account, or release it again. A blocked list is publicly unreachable. The review state is derived from a content hash, so a reviewed list only comes back when its content actually changes, and every decision is logged with the name behind it and the reason given. A maintainable word filter rounds this off - a match reports a list for review rather than blocking it on its own - together with a report function for visitors.
Reporting in the administration
A dashboard shows active lists, upcoming occasions, reservations and open thank-yous. Statistics are split across four tabs, namely revenue & success, customers & givers, products, and occasions & themes, with a period filter over 7, 30 or 90 days and all time. Reservations, orders, thank-yous and the review queue are searchable lists; the order itself gains a tab showing the real recipient address. Your customers' lists stay visible but untouched - they belong to the customers.
Occasions you control
Five occasions ship with the plugin: wedding, baby shower, birthday, housewarming and Christmas. You can rename them, recolour them, give them a different icon, reorder them and add your own. The occasion drives the colour and icon of the public list page and can be styled further through a CSS class of its own.

Who this pays off for
Shops with giftable ranges: home and interior, household and kitchen, baby and child, jewellery, electronics, sports, artisan and gift articles. Everywhere customers keep a list for a wedding, a birth, a move, a birthday or Christmas anyway, just somewhere else so far.
The result: your customers' occasion happens in your shop, with many buyers instead of one, without duplicate gifts and without anyone having to reveal their address.

- Install and activate the extension.
- In the administration open „Customers → Gift registries“. On the first visit the setup assistant offers itself automatically; later you can reopen it any time from the „Setup assistant“ menu entry.
- Work through the assistant. It covers the share link, the shop appearance, privacy, purchase detection, giver permissions, occasions, gift options, the word filter and emails, and checks your order states, the background tasks and possible conflicts in your shop along the way.
- Optional: fine-tune under „Extensions → My extensions → Gift Registry & Wishlist → Configuration“. Every setting can be made per sales channel; the „Active“ switch at the very top turns the plugin on and off per channel.
- Under „Reservation and fulfilment“ check from which order state a wish counts as finally gifted, and at which state a reservation is released again. If you use custom states, adjust it here.
- Under „Address masking“ choose the placeholder wording that givers see instead of the real address, and decide whether the delivery note inside the parcel should carry the real address.
- Optional: under „Occasions“ maintain name, colour and icon of the supplied occasions or add your own. Under „Gift options“ you can offer wrapping, a card or a ribbon as a paid surcharge – five examples are prepared and switched off initially.
- Make sure the Shopware task runner is running. Reminders and the cleanup of expired reservations depend on it.
- Done. Your customers find the gift registry in their account under „Gift registry“, create their list there and share it by link.
