Products from the Same Category — Cross-Selling Slider

Description

Highlights

  • Automatic cross-selling from the SEO category – no manual curation
  • Slider on the product detail page with native Shopware look and feel
  • Works with static categories and dynamic product groups
  • No cookie, no tracking, no external server – GDPR-compliant out of the box
  • No JavaScript, no SCSS, no theme rebuild needed

Features

  • Category, not guesswork: The plugin reads the current product's SEO category and loads other products from the same category. A thematically relevant selection – no random picks, no order history needed.
  • Dynamic product groups supported: If the category uses a product stream instead of static assignments, the plugin evaluates the stream and shows the results in the slider. The data source switches automatically depending on the category type.
  • Two settings, nothing hidden: On/off and maximum number of products (default: 12) – everything under Settings, each configurable per sales channel.
  • No theme rebuild – not even after updates: The plugin ships with no JavaScript and no CSS. It uses only the existing Shopware slider component. No theme:compile needed at all.
  • Default sorting from the shop: Products appear in the order you have set as the default sorting in your shop – no custom sort logic, no surprises.

About the Extension

Products from the Same Category – automatic cross-selling on the product detail page

Shopware ships without automatic cross-selling based on category membership. If you want to show customers related products from the same category, you either maintain the lists by hand or leave the space empty. Products from the Same Category closes that gap: a slider on the product detail page, filled automatically from the current product's SEO category – not on the category page, but right where the customer buys.

Features in Detail

  • Category, not guesswork: The plugin reads the current product's SEO category and loads other products from the same category. The result is a thematically relevant selection – the products your shop has already placed in the same category. No random picks, no order history needed.
  • Dynamic product groups supported: If the category uses a product stream instead of static assignments, the plugin evaluates the stream and shows the results in the slider. The data source switches automatically depending on the category type – no separate setting required.
  • Every setting in plain sight: The selection is governed by on/off and maximum number of products (default: 12). The look of the slider is shaped by: products per row, arrow position inside or outside, corner radius, background, arrow and border colour, the same three again for hover, and the opacity of the arrow background. All under Settings → System → Plugins → Products from the Same Category, configurable per sales channel.
  • No theme rebuild – not even after updates: The plugin ships with no JavaScript and no CSS. It uses only the existing Shopware slider component. No theme:compile needed, not even after a Shopware update.
  • Default sorting from the shop: Products appear in the order you have set as the default sorting in your shop – no custom sort logic, no surprises.

About the Extension

Built to survive updates. A subscriber on ProductPageLoadedEvent, a Twig include of the core slider. The block page_content_blocks is extended, not replaced – parent() is always called, so other plugins in the same block stay visible.

Cleanly removed again. Uninstalling removes all configuration keys from the database. The plugin creates no custom table – it only reads the existing product-to-category assignment. Choose “keep user data” when uninstalling, and your settings will be there unchanged after a reinstall.

Compatibility. Shopware 6.7.x, verified with the default theme and ThemeWare. The slider uses the Shopware-native slider component (cms-element-product-slider) – it looks like every other product slider in the shop and adapts to your theme automatically.

Privacy. No external server, no cookie, no tracking. All data comes exclusively from the category tree of your own shop. No personal data leaves the server or is stored in the browser.

What This Plugin Does NOT Do

  • It replaces no core template – the only block it touches (page_content_blocks) is extended, not overridden.
  • It creates no custom database table and writes nothing to existing tables.
  • It loads no JavaScript and no CSS of its own – which is why it needs no theme rebuild.
  • It does not show products on the category page – the slider appears on the product detail page and uses the current product's SEO category as its data source.
  • It is not a replacement for the manual cross-selling lists in Shopware – it adds an automatic source alongside them.

Show your customers what other products share the same category – automatically, on every product detail page.
