Product Photo to 3D — 3D Models and AR with Tripo AI

Description

Highlights

  • Bulk action in the product list: several products, one click, up to 50 models per run
  • Estimated credits per product and in total before sending, then the credits used per model
  • Approval with 3D preview: drafts are attached to the product only after your approval
  • Shopware's own 3D view and AR button on the product page, no storefront changes
  • Your own Tripo key (BYOK), images are transferred only after you allow it

Features

  • Confirmation dialog with source image, credits per product and reasons for skipped products
  • Background processing via message queue and scheduled task, status per product in the product list
  • GLB check before import: structure, size, materials and textures, with a warning if colours are missing
  • Draft and target folder in the media library with names of your choice
  • Approve, reject or regenerate; rejected drafts stay in the media library
  • At most 3 attempts per model, errors visible on the job, no silent retries
  • Model version, texture quality (standard/HD) and polygon limit configurable
  • AR flag per model on approval, changeable later in the media library
  • Own role permissions for viewing, generating and approving
  • Notice in the module if no background worker is running

  • Model orientation selectable – align to the product photo or Tripo default

About the Extension

3D models from your product images – visible only after your approval

Select several products in the product list and choose "Generate 3D model". The plugin sends each product's cover image to Tripo, an AI service for 3D models, and stores the finished GLB files as drafts in your media library. A model is attached to the product only when you approve it. Shopware then shows it on the product page in its own 3D view, optionally with an AR button.

Requires your own Tripo account with an API key (billed directly by Tripo). You enter your own key in the plugin configuration. The plugin contains no key and no credits. The Test connection button shows right away whether the key works and states your Tripo balance – without using any credits.

  • Bulk action in the product list: select several products, one click, up to 50 models per run.
  • Costs before sending: estimated credits per product and in total, afterwards the credits actually used per model.
  • Approval before publishing: preview every model in the administration, then approve, reject or regenerate.
  • Runs in the background: uploading, polling and downloading are handled by the message queue and a scheduled task. A model is usually ready after 2 to 3 minutes; several products are processed at the same time.
  • Shopware's standard 3D: approved models are regular product media (GLB), no extra viewer in the storefront.

How it works

  1. In Catalogues › Products, select products and choose "Generate 3D model" in the selection bar.
  2. The dialog shows the source image and the estimated credits per product, plus products that will be skipped, for example without a cover image. Jobs are created only after you confirm.
  3. In the background, the image is handed to Tripo, the task is polled, and the finished GLB is checked and stored in the draft folder of the media library.
  4. Under Catalogues › 3D models you see every model in a 3D preview and decide: approve, reject or regenerate.
  5. Approved models move to the target folder and are attached to the product after the existing images, never as cover image.

Costs at a glance

The estimate follows Tripo's price list for image to 3D (as of 1 October 2026): 30 credits per model with standard texture, 40 with HD texture. Each job then shows the credits Tripo actually reports. A failure stays visible on the job, with the error text and "Attempt n of 3". Only temporary errors are retried, at most three times; after that the job is set to "Failed". According to Tripo's documentation, credits are only charged for tasks that complete successfully.

Checks before anything enters the media library

  • Every downloaded file is checked for size and GLB structure; a file extension alone is not enough.
  • The check counts materials and textures. If they are missing, the approval view shows a warning, because the model will probably appear without colours in the shop.
  • The maximum model size is configurable, default 50 MB.

What the plugin does not do

  • It publishes nothing on its own: without approval, no model is attached to a product.
  • It deletes no media, neither on rejection nor on uninstall.
  • It does not edit models and does not replace a cover image.
  • It uses one image per product, the cover image; the AI fills in the sides and the back. Planned: models from several product images (for example front, side, back) to make the sides and the back even more accurate.
  • Products that already have a 3D model are skipped – otherwise two models would be attached after approval.
  • Variants are skipped: a medium of its own on a variant would replace the images it inherits from the main product. Please select the main product.
  • Quality depends on the photo: a cut-out product on a calm background gives the best models.

About the extension

  • Update safety: no storefront templates and no storefront JavaScript. The 3D view and the AR button on the product page come from Shopware itself.
  • Compatibility: Shopware 6.7.7 or newer, because the 3D preview in the administration requires this version.
  • Requirement: Shopware's standard background processing – message consumer and scheduled task runner, or the admin worker while the administration is open. Without it, jobs stay in the queue; the module shows this.
  • Data transfer: product images are sent to Tripo only after you switch on "Transferring product images to Tripo is allowed". It is off by default. Without a key or with the switch off, no jobs are created.
  • Permissions: own role permissions for viewing, generating and approving.
  • Test mode: a mock mode runs the whole process without a connection to Tripo and without costs.
