About the Extension

Magic ALT & TITLE Tags – ALT and TITLE Tags for Every Gallery Image in Shopware 6

Shopware fills the ALT attribute of a gallery image from the image's own ALT text, and uses the product name only where the image has none. If you do not maintain ALT texts per image, what search engines and screen readers get is whatever was left there — often nothing consistent.

Magic ALT & TITLE Tags closes both gaps. An ALT text you maintained on the image is kept as it is; every gallery image that has none is given the product name instead of being left to chance. On top of that the plugin fills the TITLE attribute, which Shopware leaves empty on gallery images. The tags are built on every page render, so they follow the product name and its translations without any manual work.

Where does the plugin get the text for ALT and TITLE from?

From the ALT text maintained on the image, where there is one. If there is none, the plugin uses the translated product name, and the Shopware default text if that is missing too. The TITLE follows the same rule: a maintained image title is kept, otherwise the same text as the ALT is used. Up to version 1.67.3 the product name came first; from 1.67.4 on, a maintained text takes precedence.

Do I need to configure anything or maintain images manually?

No. Once activated, the logic runs automatically on all product detail pages with an image gallery — no configuration menu, no manual per-image maintenance needed.

Are newly created products covered automatically too?

Yes. Since the tags are generated from the current product name on every page render, products and images added later are covered without any extra work.

Does this use any external service or cloud API? Is it GDPR-compliant?

No external service, and yes. All logic runs server-side inside the Shopware template — no data is sent to third parties and no external API is called.

Is the plugin compatible with my theme and Shopware version?

From Shopware 6.7.x onward. The plugin fully replaces two blocks of the Shopware image gallery — there is no other way to pass ALT and TITLE into the image call. Everything else Shopware does in those blocks is carried over: the responsive sizes set, lazy loading from the second image onward, and the product image markup. A theme or plugin that occupies the same two blocks can overlap with it; in that case whatever loads last wins.

1.67.4 6.7.0.0 - 6.7.14.2 6 September 2026

Changed, by a decision of the plugin owner on 2026-09-05: an ALT text maintained on the image now takes precedence over the product name. Up to 1.67.3 the product name came first and only fell back to the image's ALT text when the product had no name at all. That behaviour was intended and documented — this is a change of the specification, not a bug fix. The order is now: maintained image ALT text, otherwise the product name, otherwise Shopware's default text. The TITLE follows the same rule: a maintained image title is kept, and where there is none the same text as the ALT is used. For every image without a maintained ALT text — the normal case — nothing changes.
On the interplay with GreatConversionKrake: that plugin was moved to the same order on the same day, so the two no longer contradict each other. In a shop running both, however, only GreatConversionKrake takes effect — it replaces the outer blocks of the image gallery without calling the inner blocks this plugin occupies. As long as its option for automatic ALT and TITLE attributes is switched on, this plugin has no effect there.
