If you sell products with a minimum age — alcohol, tobacco, knives, FSK-18 media — you need a reliable way to check who is actually buying them. A simple "Are you over 18?" question is easy to click away. This plugin uses the EU digital identity wallet (EUDI Wallet) instead: customers prove their age with an official wallet app on their phone, the same way they would show an ID card.
How it works for your customers
A customer opens the age verification page in their customer account and starts the check. They scan a QR code with their wallet app — or, on a phone, open the app directly with one tap. The wallet asks them to share their date of birth, they confirm, and the shop shows the result within a few seconds. Done once, the verification is saved to their account and they can buy restricted products from then on.
How it works for you
You set a minimum age (16+, 18+ or 21+) on any product, directly on the product page in the administration. From that moment the plugin takes over: unverified visitors see a notice instead of a buy button, and checkout is blocked for restricted items until the customer has verified their age. You decide whether restricted products are shown with a blocked buy button or hidden from listings and search entirely.
In the customer view of the administration you can see at a glance whether a customer is verified and for which age group, and you can reset a verification if needed.
Privacy by design
The shop never stores a birth date. The result of a verification is a simple age group — for example "18+" — and that is the only thing saved to the customer account. The verification itself is handled by a separate verification service that you connect in the plugin settings, so sensitive wallet data does not pass through your shop's database.
Good to know
- Customers need a smartphone with an EU digital identity wallet app and an electronic ID (PID) in it.
- You need access to a verification service that talks to the wallets; its address is entered in the plugin settings.
- The EU wallet ecosystem is still young. The plugin works with the current EU reference wallet, and the EU test environment can be used for trying it out.
- Storefront texts are included in English and German.
