The right packaging for every order
Oversized cartons cost money twice: in packaging material and in shipped air. Efficient Packaging calculates the smallest suitable packaging from your own packaging catalog for every order and shows how much of the shipment is empty space. Your team sees the recommendation directly on the order, so packing decisions no longer depend on guesswork or habit.
The calculation uses the length, width and height you already maintain on your products, including inheritance for variants. It runs automatically when an order is placed, in the background so the checkout never waits, and can be started for individual orders or for all open orders at any time.
Packaging rules that match your products
Maintain your cartons, mailer boxes, envelopes, padded envelopes and polybags with inner dimensions, material, unit cost and an insulation flag, or start with the bundled set of standard formats and adjust it. Packaging profiles describe how a product needs to be packed: extra room for padding as a percentage or a fixed volume per unit, the packaging types that are allowed, whether the product has to stay upright and whether it needs insulated packaging.
Assign a profile in the product's custom fields, also in the bulk edit, or simply mark one profile as the default for all other products. A packaging is only recommended when every single unit fits its inner dimensions and the rules of all products in the order are met.
Empty-space thresholds and documented decisions
Each recommendation is rated against three configurable thresholds: a tracking floor, a warning threshold and a block threshold. The defaults follow the 50 % empty-space limit for e-commerce packaging of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The order list gets a packaging status column and a filter, so orders with a warning, a blocked ratio or missing product dimensions are found immediately.
On the order, your staff confirm the recommendation with one click or choose another packaging. Deviations from the recommendation and ratios above the block threshold require a reason. Confirmed records keep the user, the time, the recommended and the chosen packaging and the reason, and cannot be changed afterwards. Recommendations within your thresholds can optionally be confirmed automatically.
Dashboard and reports
The dashboard summarises a selectable period and sales channel: the share of orders within your thresholds, the average empty space, packaging cost, the extra cost of manual overrides and the empty volume you shipped. A distribution chart, the latest threshold violations and a list of shippable products without dimensions show where to act next.
