About the Extension

Every colour at a glance, with one switch

Shopware can show the variants of a product as separate tiles in listings, but only product by product. With hundreds of products in several colours this is a lot of clicking, and every new product has to be set up again. Expand Variants in Listings adds one switch to each property: switch on "Expand in product listings" for Colour, and every product whose variants differ in colour shows one tile per colour, in category listings, on the search result page and in the search suggestions.

Shopware's own variant expansion, applied centrally

The plugin does not build a second listing. It feeds your central choice into the same mechanism Shopware uses when you expand a product by its properties, so each tile is the variant itself: its own image, its own price and a link straight to that variant. Result counts, pages, sorting and filters stay exactly as Shopware calculates them, with MySQL search as well as with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.

Your product settings stay in charge

Products for which you chose a storefront presentation of their own keep it: products that show the main product or a specific variant, and products that already expand by their own properties. Several properties can be switched on together, for example Colour and Size, and their combinations become separate tiles.

Fast in the administration, updated in the background

The switch is saved with the property as usual. Only the products that use the property are updated, in the background through the message queue, and only their listing data. The property page shows when the last update was started and for how many products. Switch it off, and the listings look as before.

Which products are expanded?

Products with variants whose storefront presentation is not set individually. Products set to "Display single product" (main product or a chosen variant) or expanded by their own properties keep that setting.

Why does a newly generated product still show one tile?

When you generate variants in the administration, Shopware sets the product to "Display single product > Main product". Open the product's storefront presentation, choose "Expand property values in product listings" without ticking any property, and it follows the central switch. The status below the switch shows how many products keep a presentation of their own.

Does it work with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch?

Yes. The plugin calculates the same listing value Shopware indexes, and the search index is updated together with the listing.

How long does the update take?

The switch is saved immediately. The listings follow as soon as the message queue has processed the affected products, usually within seconds to minutes depending on the catalogue size.
