The Digital Product Passport (DPP) – for all your products
With the Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 (ESPR) the EU introduces the digital product passport step by step for more and more product groups. It bundles the key information on a product – manufacturer, materials, substances, safety, repair and disposal – and is accessible via a QR code on the product. Dealers must make the passport easily accessible in online shops as well.
This plugin creates, manages and publishes product passports directly in Shopware – with your product data, without an external platform and without costs per passport.
Which products are affected – and when?
- Batteries – from 18 Feb 2027: battery passport for LMT batteries (e.g. e-bike and e-scooter batteries), EV batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh; QR code on all batteries (Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542)
- Detergents – from 23 Sep 2029 (Detergents Regulation (EU) 2026/405)
- Toys – mainly from 1 Aug 2030 (Toy Safety Regulation (EU) 2025/2509)
- Planned under the ESPR working plan: iron and steel, aluminium, textiles & footwear, tyres, furniture, mattresses – acts from 2026/2027, usually applying at the earliest 18 months later
- Construction products (Construction Products Regulation (EU) 2024/3110) – date per product family
The exact mandatory content per product group is set by the delegated acts. The plugin contains prepared profiles for them and is adjusted by updates when new acts are adopted.
One plugin for all product groups
- Generic product passport under the Ecodesign Regulation with the information of Annex III – for every product
- Prepared profiles: textiles & footwear, furniture, mattresses, tyres, toys, detergents, construction products, electronics & appliances, iron/steel/aluminium
- Battery passport under Annex XIII of the Battery Regulation with about 80 fields, access levels and usage data per battery
- Obligations already applying today are marked at the field – such as fibre composition, tyre label, warnings, CLP hazard statements or the REACH duty to inform
- Own fields for information you want to show in addition
How it works
- Create a passport: choose the product and the passport type – name, manufacturer, weight, image and EAN are taken over.
- Add information: the editor shows per field whether it is mandatory today or later, who may see it and where a value comes from. Recurring information is maintained once as a preset per manufacturer.
- Model, batch or item passport: for serial numbers you generate item passports that inherit all information of the model passport – up to 5,000 at once.
- Publish and print: every version is stored immutably, QR codes can be downloaded as SVG/PNG or printed as labels directly.
QR code and data carrier
- QR code as GS1 Digital Link with GTIN, batch and serial number – or as a fixed passport address
- Own domain for QR codes so printed codes survive a shop move
- Labels: A4 sheets (14, 24, 40), label printers in any size, battery label with CE marking and collection symbol
- Machine-readable output (JSON) and linkset for GS1 resolvers
For manufacturers, own brands, importers and distributors
- Manufacturers and own brands create the passport themselves.
- Distributors and importers link the manufacturer's passport. Availability is checked daily, the due diligence check is documented per passport.
- Supplier portal: your supplier receives a personal link and enters the information – no login. You review and apply with one click.
- Import of supplier passports as JSON and CSV import with dry run
Access levels
Not every piece of information is public. Each field has a level: public, legitimate interest (e.g. repairers and recyclers), authorities or internal. For the non-public levels you issue access keys with an expiry date that can be revoked at any time.
In the shop
- Passport on the product page – below the buy box or as a tab – with key data and QR code
- Own passport page with sections, versions and verification page, optimised for mobile and in all shop languages
- In the customer account the buyer finds the passport of exactly their piece
Traceable and permanently available
- Every published version is stored immutably and chained to the previous one via SHA-256; older versions remain available
- Withdrawn passports stay accessible with a notice, published passports cannot be deleted by mistake
- Automatic backup copy of every version to your DPP service provider (Art. 27 Ecodesign Regulation)
- EU registry: field for the registration identifier and export of all identifiers as a template for registration; QR pack for dealers and marketplaces; archive of all passports
