Multi Language Detection Redirect

"Multi Language Detection Redirect" is a plugin that allows you to automatically redirect your customers to the language-domain of their choice. Based on their browser and OS language settings, the plugin will automatically determine which language of your site the customer wants to see. When the visitor later switches to another language using the language selector, this choice will be remembered using a cookie. This way, the automatic language switcher will remember the choice of the visitor. 

How does it work?

In your Sales Channel Domain settings (the modal) a new checkbox has been added. By enabled this checkbox, the Sales Channel Domain will not be usable anymore by itself, as it will automatically redirect to another domain.

Example configuration

The way most projects use this plugin is in the following setup.

mystore.com/ -> English, redirect = true

mystore.com/nl -> Dutch, redirect = false

mystore.com/de -> German, redirect = false

mystore.com/int -> English, redirect = false

Now let's say we have a Dutch customer visiting the store. If they visit mystore.com/nl, nothing special will happen. The magic happens when the customer visits mystore.com/, and will be redirected automatically to the Dutch version of the website. If this customer switches to English using the language selector, and revisits mystore.com/ in a later moment, they will be redirected to the English version of the website because the plugin has remembered their preference.

By selecting "English" as the language for the root-domain, the urls for this domain will be generated using the English entities. This way it is possible for the store owner to share a language-agnostic URL, for example mystore.com/ThisIsMyCategory. A customer would be automatically redirected to the translated version -> mystore.com/nl/DitIsMijnCategorie, mystore.com/en/ThisIsMyCategory, or mystore.com/de/DiesIstMeineKategorie.
