XML Sitemaps — Next Level
Multi-language shops need hreflang tags, product images belong in an image sitemap, and different content types should be cleanly separated. This plugin delivers exactly that: advanced XML sitemaps following Google standards with full control over content, generation and output.
Core Features
- Multi-Content: Products, categories, CMS pages (landing pages + service navigation like imprint/terms) and manufacturers — all in clean, separate sitemap files
- Hreflang Tags: Automatic hreflang generation for multi-language shops — so Google serves the right language version
- Image Sitemap: Google Image Sitemap Extension for product images (up to 5 images per product)
- Scheduled Task: Automatic generation at configurable intervals (hourly to weekly)
- CLI Command:mmd:sitemap:generate for cron jobs and CI/CD pipelines
- Multi-Sales-Channel: Separate sitemaps per sales channel
How It Works
After installation, find the configuration under Settings → Extensions → Advanced XML Sitemap. Enable the desired content types, configure hreflang and image sitemap, and set the generation interval. Sitemaps are automatically placed in the public/sitemap/ directory.
The admin dashboard lets you trigger sitemap generation with a single click and shows statistics about available URLs per type.
Smart Content Separation
The plugin automatically separates product categories from service pages: sitemap-categories.xml contains only categories with products, sitemap-cms.xml combines landing pages and service navigation (imprint, terms, privacy policy). This follows Google's recommendation to keep different content types in separate sitemaps.
Filter Options
- Exclude empty categories
- Optionally include product variants
- Exclude out-of-stock products
Performance
No problem even with large catalogs: memory-efficient generator pattern with batch processing (100 entries per batch). When exceeding 50,000 URLs per type, sitemap files are automatically split — compliant with Google's limits.
Important Notes
- Manufacturer URLs require a separate plugin for SEO URLs, as Shopware 6 does not provide manufacturer SEO URLs by default
- changefreq and priority are set with sensible defaults but are not individually configurable — Google largely ignores these values (confirmed by John Mueller, 2017)
- lastmod is automatically generated from Shopware data and is therefore always accurate
