About the Extension

Tiny swatches, big decisions

Colour and pattern are often chosen from a tiny field. Muto Variants Hover View shows an enlarged preview at the pointer when you hover – colour as a surface, image as the motif. You see what you pick without leaving the page or touching the theme.

Follows the pointer, on mouse and touch

The box sits at the pointer and flips left or up at the edge so nothing is cut off. On desktop, hover is enough. On a phone a short tap still selects the variant; after a brief hold the preview appears at the finger and hides when you let go. Preview images load only when you first touch that option – not all at once on page load.

Look and feel in the admin, not in the theme

Width, height, padding, border, corner radius and colours are set in the plugin configuration, optionally per sales channel. Images fill the box cropped or in full. You can show the variant name as a title bar below the image or colour – with its own text and background colour. Native browser tooltips on colour and image swatches stay off so they do not cover the preview.

No extra content to maintain

You keep working with your existing variants. Display type colour or image, colour code or media on the option – done. Text variants such as size stay unchanged. After installation the preview is on as soon as matching options exist on the product.

Built for shops that sell through variants

Muto Variants Hover View is for you when colour, design or pattern close the sale, and for agencies that need a preview without a theme ticket. Use the defaults or refine border and title: both are intended. The result feels like the shop – not like a bolted-on overlay.

Preview images now load only when the hover box is first shown instead of on page load.
Thumbnail sizes follow the configured preview width instead of a hardcoded 200px.
Replaced mouse events with pointer events so the preview works on touch and pen devices and no longer sticks after a tap.
Short taps still select the variant; the preview appears after a short hold and follows the pointer, then hides on release.
Removed the mobile breakpoint that previously hid the preview below 768px.
Grouped the plugin configuration into three cards: size and image, border and surface, and variant name.
Removed unused CSS config tags so the admin no longer shows the theme compile notice.
Plugin configuration is read once per configurator instead of per variant option; CSS custom properties are inherited from a wrapper.
Removed the duplicate native tooltip on the hover preview box.
Use a single shared hover preview box with event delegation instead of one plugin instance per variant option.
Preview still follows the pointer, loads images only on hover, and keeps the same touch delay behaviour.
Suppress the native browser tooltip on color and image swatches so it no longer covers the hover preview.

Added optional variant name display in the hover box with three new config fields: show variant name (switch, default off), title text color, and title background color.
Introduced an inner container: image/color area now has its own bordered box; the title bar is rendered outside it, attached below.
When the variant name is shown: inner container has no bottom border and no bottom corner radius; the image has no bottom corner radius; the title bar has border-radius only on the bottom corners (no border, no padding inherited from the box).
Hover box layout uses flexbox so the title sits below the image/color area instead of overlaying it.
