Crossselling in Cart | Cross Selling Accessories as Slider or List
Description
Highlights
About the Extension
A customer adds a lawnmower to the cart. You set up the spare blade and the grass box as cross-selling on that product months ago. But the customer never opened the product page, they added it straight from the category. Now they are thinking about paying, not about blades.
The problem
Out of the box, Shopware shows your cross-selling on the product detail page. Anyone who adds to cart from a category, the search results or a wishlist never sees it. The assignments you maintained so carefully sit unused at exactly the point where the buying decision happens. Cross-selling that only lives on the product page sells nothing when it matters most.
The solution
The plugin collects the cross-selling of every item in the cart and shows it below the cart as a slider, using your shop's own product box. If you like, it also appears in the off-canvas cart, the sidebar that opens after adding a product, either as a slider or as a compact list. You do not maintain any new data. The plugin uses whatever is already set up on the cross-selling tab of each product.
What's in it for you
- Your existing work pays off twice. Every cross-selling assignment you built for the product page now works in the cart as well. No second rule set, no second list to keep up to date.
- Accessories at the right moment. Customers see the spare battery, the cable or the case while they can still order it. Not when they unpack the parcel.
- One click, no detour. On the cart page, "Add to shopping cart" in the slider adds the item straight away. The page reloads and shows the updated total.
- No duplicate offers. Anything already in the cart is not offered again. If two items recommend the same accessory, it appears once.
- Each sales channel has its own settings. Retail shop with a slider in the sidebar, trade channel with no recommendations at all: you set this per sales channel.
- Looks like your shop. Slider and product box come from the Shopware Storefront. In the default theme the recommendations look like any other product list in your shop.
How the plugin works
When a customer opens the cart, the plugin reads the cross-selling of each item in it. It does not matter whether you assigned products manually or picked a dynamic product group. From that it builds the recommendations, removes duplicates and anything already in the cart, and limits the result to the number you set. The default is 4.
Without random selection, recommendations follow the order of the cart: first the cross-selling of the first item, then the second. Switch on "Random selection across all cart items" and the plugin pools the cross-selling of all cart items and picks at random. That way the third item in the cart gets a look-in too.
For the off-canvas cart you have three options: "Do not show" (default), "Show as slider" or "Show as list". The list shows image, name, price and a "Details" button that links to the product page for each item.
The heading above the recommendations reads "Often bought together". You can change it in the snippets in the Administration, separately for each language. If the plugin finds nothing suitable for the current cart, it hides the whole block. Customers never see an empty heading.
Typical use cases
- Garden: A lawnmower in the cart, with the spare blade, grass box and oil listed below it.
- Printers and office supplies: Someone ordering a printer sees the matching cartridges and paper before heading to checkout.
- Cycling: A lock and a helmet appear next to the e-bike. They come from one dynamic product group that you create once and attach to several bikes.
- Retail and trade in one shop: In the B2C channel the sidebar opens with an accessories slider after every add to cart. In the B2B channel, where regulars order by product number, you simply switch the plugin off.
Technical facts for your IT team
- Shopware 6.7, PHP 8.2 or later.
- No custom tables, no custom fields, no changes to Shopware tables. Only the plugin configuration is stored.
- The plugin sends no data to external servers and does not process personal data.
- Cross-selling is loaded through Shopware's own cross-selling route of the Store API. One request per item in the cart; without random selection the plugin stops as soon as it has enough recommendations.
- Rendering uses Shopware's product slider and product box, added through Twig blocks on the cart page and in the off-canvas cart.
- All settings per sales channel, including the switch "Enable plugin for this sales channel".
- Uninstalling leaves no plugin data behind, Shopware removes the configuration.
To be honest
The plugin does not invent recommendations. There is no AI, no sales statistics and no separate maintenance screen. If you have not set up cross-selling on a product, nothing shows up in the cart for it. The heading "Often bought together" is a snippet, not an analysis of your orders; if it does not fit your assignments, change it. The plugin does not show pricier alternatives to the chosen item (upselling). The layout is built for the default theme, so heavily customised themes may need some spacing or slider width adjustments. Try it with a handful of well-maintained cross-sellings and you will quickly see whether it suits your range.
