Packing Units per Customer Group | Minimum Order Quantity and Packaging Units
Description
Highlights
About the Extension
You sell pet food, screws or drinks to two very different kinds of buyer. A consumer wants three tins. Your trade customer should only ever order full cases of 12. Shopware gives you one minimum quantity and one purchase step per product, and that one setting has to work for everybody.
The problem
One quantity rule for everyone fits nobody. Set the product to steps of 12 and the consumer can no longer buy a single tin. Leave it at 1 and the trade customer orders 17, so someone in the warehouse splits a case. The usual workaround is a second sales channel just for trade customers, where every product is maintained twice. That is double the work for the same catalogue.
The solution
The plugin gives each customer group its own quantity steps on the same product. In the product you enter the allowed quantities per customer group, for example 12;24;36. That group then only sees those quantities in the shop. Every other customer group keeps buying the way it does today.
What's in it for you
One sales channel instead of two. Consumers and trade customers buy the same product in the same shop. You maintain texts, images and stock once. Only the quantities differ.
No more split cases. Customers pick from a list of valid quantities instead of typing a number. If an odd quantity still lands in the cart, say through a quick order form or the API, the plugin rounds it up to the next valid step.
Minimum order quantity per customer group. The first step is also the minimum quantity for that group. Trade customers order from 12, consumers from 1, on the same product.
Long quantity ladders without the typing. Two numbers are enough. The plugin continues the steps on its own up to the maximum quantity, as multiples of each entered quantity, by repeating the last increment or by repeating all increments in turn. If you prefer to define every step yourself, switch the automatic continuation off.
Leftover stock still sells. When a clearance item has less stock left than the smallest step, the customer can still buy what is left. The last seven tins do not sit on the shelf forever.
A typo never blocks a product. Whether you enter 12;24;36, 12,24,36 or 12 24 36, the plugin understands semicolons, commas and spaces. If a field holds no valid value at all, the customer group buys the product as usual and the entry is noted in the plugin log.
How the plugin works
After installation, the product master data contains the section "Customer group dependent packing units" with one field per customer group, labelled "Packing units for" followed by the group name. You enter whole numbers separated by semicolons. Create a new customer group later and the plugin adds the matching field by itself.
In the storefront, the plugin replaces the free quantity field on the product detail page and in the cart with a selection of valid quantities for the affected customer groups. In category listings, the button for these products leads to the detail page, where the customer picks a quantity. The steps stop at the product's maximum purchase quantity or, if none is set, at the Shopware default.
Automatic continuation comes in three modes:
- Multiples of each entered quantity: 5;10 becomes 5, 10, 15, 20 and so on, each number you enter continues as its own increment.
- Repeat the last increment: 5;10 becomes 5, 10, 15, 20, the last gap repeats.
- Repeat all increments in turn: 2;5;10 becomes 2, 5, 10, 12, 15, 20, 22, the gaps of 2, 3 and 5 repeat.
You switch the plugin on or off per sales channel and configure it there separately.
Typical use cases
- Pet supplies with trade accounts: consumers buy tins of food one at a time, animal shelters in cases of 12, resellers in steps of 144.
- Drinks wholesale: private customers order single bottles, pubs and restaurants only full crates of 6, 12 or 24.
- Fixings and fasteners: tradespeople buy screws only in boxes of 50 or 100, while DIY customers can order smaller amounts.
- End of line stock: a product is being discontinued and only 5 units are left against steps of 12. Those 5 can still be sold.
Technical facts for your IT team
- Shopware 6.7, PHP 8.2 or higher.
- No custom database tables and no changes to Shopware's core tables. Quantities are stored in a dedicated custom field set on the product, one text field per customer group.
- The plugin sends no data to external servers. It does not process any additional personal data.
- Quantities are checked inside Shopware's own cart, so orders via quick order forms or the API are covered as well.
- Storefront changes extend Shopware's templates rather than replacing them.
- Configuration per sales channel.
- If you keep the plugin data when uninstalling, settings and custom fields stay in place. Otherwise the plugin removes both completely.
To be honest
This plugin is not a pricing tool. It does not change prices, create tiered prices or apply discounts. You keep handling that with Shopware's price rules. Quantities are whole numbers, so decimal amounts such as 2.5 metres are not possible. It cannot be combined with our Area Calculator plugin on the same product. If your customer groups need different quantities, try it in your test shop first.
