About the Extension
A folder full of photos from the trade show, the workshop or a customer's home. A handful of them make it into your shop, because every gallery means manual work. The rest sits unused in the media library.
The problem
Shopware's own gallery element lives inside a single shopping experience. You pick the images in the element itself, and if you want the same gallery on a second page, you start from scratch. New photos have to be added everywhere by hand. A masonry view, images taken straight from a folder or one gallery shared by several products are simply not part of the package.
The solution
The plugin turns a gallery into a record of its own. You create it once under Content > Image galleries and show it wherever it belongs: through the shopping experience block “Image gallery” or directly on the product page. Images come from three sources: picked one by one, taken from a media folder or collected via tags. With folders and tags the gallery fills itself as soon as new files arrive.
What's in it for you
Maintain once, show everywhere. One gallery can sit in any number of shopping experiences and on any number of product pages. Swap an image and it is swapped everywhere.
New photos without extra work. Upload images to the chosen media folder or give them the right tag, and they appear in the gallery. The plugin clears the cache of the affected pages on its own.
Images that lead somewhere. In galleries built from single images, every image can carry a title, a description and a link with its own link text, for example to the matching category. You maintain all texts per language through the language switch.
The right view for every page. A grid for even product shots, masonry for a mix of portrait and landscape, justified rows for photo series, a slider with five effects for the big entrance. How many images sit side by side is up to you, per screen size.
A large view that works on phones too. The lightbox responds to swipes, arrow keys and a double click to zoom. Videos play right inside it, documents can be downloaded.
Galleries where people buy. Assign installation photos, references or examples of use to a product. They show up as a separate tab, below the buy button or below the description, and variants display the galleries of their main product as well.
How the plugin works
- In the administration under Content > Image galleries you create as many galleries as you like. Name and description are translatable, and you can add a title image as a banner. Every gallery has an active switch and can be limited to selected sales channels.
- Image source “Single images (manual)”: upload files or pick them from the media library, change the order by drag and drop. Per image you maintain title, description, link and link text, and the link can open in a new window.
- Image source “Media folder”, optionally including subfolders, or “Tags” with “At least one tag” or “All tags”. A preview shows you straight away which files match.
- Sorting by manual order, newest or oldest first, file name ascending or descending, or random. Random means shuffled again on every page view.
- The switch “Show images only” hides videos, audio files and documents.
- In the shopping experience editor you find the block “Image gallery” in the category “Images”. There you choose the gallery, the layout, the columns from phone (XS) to large desktop (XL) or an automatic number based on available space, plus aspect ratio, image height, gap, image limit and how many images are visible at first. The rest appears via “Show more”.
- For the product page you set position and layout in the plugin configuration, separately for each sales channel.
Typical use cases
- References and projects: A joinery in Leeds shows finished kitchens as a masonry gallery on a shopping experience page. Each image links to the matching category in the shop.
- Products in use: A garden furniture retailer assigns photos from real gardens to a furniture range. Every product page of that range shows the “Gallery” tab.
- Campaigns by tag: A garden centre tags new photos with “Spring show” in the media library. The gallery on the branch page fills itself.
- Images and documents together: Photos, an assembly video and the data sheet as a PDF sit in one gallery. The PDF appears in the lightbox with buttons to download and open it.
Technical facts for your IT team
- Shopware 6.7, PHP 8.2 or higher.
- Own tables for galleries, gallery images, translations and assignments. Shopware's original tables stay untouched.
- The plugin sends no data to external servers, sets no cookies and stores no personal data. The slider library Swiper (MIT licence) ships inside the plugin and is not loaded from a third-party server.
- Lightbox and slider only load on pages that need them. Images are delivered as thumbnails in a suitable size with lazy loading. Private media are never delivered.
- When a gallery, an image or a tag changes, the plugin clears the affected cache entries. Any change in the media library refreshes all pages with a gallery on their next request.
- Store API routes for galleries and product galleries. The data of the shopping experience element is included in the Store API response as well, for Composable Frontends.
- Image links only accept https, http, mailto, tel and paths starting with “/”.
- Own permission set “Image galleries” in the role management.
- Uninstalling: if you keep the data, everything stays. Otherwise the plugin removes its own tables. The files in your media library stay in both cases.
- Interface and texts in German, English and Dutch. Plugin and all settings per sales channel.
To be honest
The plugin does not replace the product images at the top of the product page. They stay as they are, and galleries are added on top. It does not embed YouTube or Vimeo videos, only video files from your media library, and it shows at most 500 files per gallery. Try it in your test environment with a media folder you already have: create a gallery, pick the folder, drop in the block.
