Shariff Social Media Share Buttons | Sharing Without Tracking or Cookies
Description

About the Extension
A customer spots the exact rain jacket her brother has been hunting for. One tap on WhatsApp and the link is on its way. That is how sharing should feel. Yet many share buttons load code from Facebook and the like the moment the page opens, long before anyone wants to share anything.
The problem
Classic share buttons embed the networks' scripts straight into your page. Facebook, X or Pinterest then learn about every page view, including visitors who never click a button. That is why most shops hide those buttons behind the cookie banner. Anyone who declines sees grey placeholders or nothing at all, and shares nothing.
The solution
The plugin builds every button as an ordinary link, rendered on the server. Your shop loads no script, font or image from any network and sets no cookie. The network's page only opens when someone clicks. The share links even work with JavaScript switched off.
What's in it for you
The buttons show up straight away, consent or not. No cookie and nothing loaded from third parties, so your cookie banner has nothing to block. Visitors who reject everything can still share.
Your customers share where they actually spend their time. Pick from 17 buttons, from WhatsApp and Pinterest to Bluesky, Threads and Mastodon. The order in which you select them is the order in which they appear.
You choose the placement without touching a template. Product page, shopping experiences, category pages, or a bar above the footer or fixed to the edge of the screen: all of it is a switch in the plugin configuration. Checkout, customer account, wishlist and search always stay clear.
The buttons look like your shop. Three styles, three sizes and four colour schemes, one of them the primary colour of your theme. No custom CSS required.
People share a clean link. The page address goes out without filter, sorting or campaign parameters. If you want to know which network sends visitors your way, the plugin can append UTM parameters with the service as the source.
One shop, several channels, each with its own rules. Every setting applies per sales channel. Show WhatsApp and Pinterest in your consumer channel and LinkedIn and XING in your trade channel, or switch the buttons off there entirely.
How the plugin works
Right after installation the buttons appear on every product page below the product number and below the content of shop pages and landing pages. Facebook, X, Pinterest, WhatsApp, Telegram, email and copy link are preselected. Everything else lives in the plugin configuration:
- Services: 13 networks and messengers, plus sharing by email, print, copy link and the device's own share dialog.
- Placement: product page below the product number or below the buy button, shop pages and landing pages, category pages, home page on or off.
- Global bar: above the footer or fixed on the left, right or bottom edge, with an offset in percent and optionally hidden on smartphones.
- Design: Icon (square), Icon (round) or Icon and label, network colours, grey, white or shop colour, three sizes, alignment and an optional "Share" heading.
- Behaviour: share dialogs open in a popup window or in a new tab.
For shopping experiences the plugin adds the block and the element "Share buttons" in the Text block category. Drop the buttons anywhere in a layout, below a buying guide for instance, and set style, colour, size, alignment and orientation for that one element.
Print, copy link and the device share dialog need JavaScript. These three buttons only appear when the browser supports the function, copy link for example only over HTTPS. Every network link keeps working without JavaScript. The name Shariff refers to the principle behind the c't project of the same name: share buttons as plain links instead of embedded network scripts. The plugin does not need the Shariff code itself.
Typical use cases
- Fashion shop on Pinterest: On the product page the plugin passes the product image to Pinterest. Whoever pins the jacket gets it on their board, picture included.
- Trade channel next to the consumer shop: Your wholesale channel shows LinkedIn, XING and email, your consumer shop WhatsApp and Facebook. Both run in the same Shopware installation.
- Buying guides in shopping experiences: Place the "Share buttons" element below each article, round and in your shop colour, while product pages keep the network colours.
- Moving on from an archived Shariff plugin: Placements, styles and colour schemes will feel familiar, and Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, Reddit and copy link come on top.
Technical facts for your IT team
- Shopware 6.7.11 or later (Storefront component system), PHP 8.2 or later.
- No custom tables, no custom fields. Shopware's core tables stay untouched.
- The plugin sends no data to external servers. Share links are built on the server, icons are inline SVG graphics. No font, no third-party script, no cookie.
- GDPR: the plugin processes no personal data. Only a click on a button opens the network's page, and from then on the network's privacy terms apply.
- Performance: the bar is rendered from the plugin configuration. In our performance test, repeated rendering triggers no additional database queries. The storefront script for popup, print, copy link and share dialog weighs about 2.5 KB.
- Headless: the Store API route /store-api/swp-shariff/share-bar returns the finished buttons for a URL, following the configuration of the sales channel.
- Accessibility: every button carries a label for screen readers and can be operated with the keyboard.
- Uninstall: keep the data and everything stays as it is. Remove it and the plugin deletes its blocks from your shopping experiences and turns placed elements into empty text elements, so your layouts remain editable.
To be honest
The plugin counts no shares and shows no counters, as that would mean your shop querying the networks. It does not link to your own social media profiles either, it is purely a sharing tool. And it needs Shopware 6.7.11 or later, so a shop on an older 6.7 release needs an update first. If that works for you, give it a try.
