About the Extension

Your hero shot came out of Midjourney. The lifestyle clip came from a video generator. Both look great. But that one image lives in five places in your shop: product page, zoom view, category page, home page slider, landing page. Each of them should make clear that AI was involved.

The problem

Article 50 of the EU AI Act asks for transparency around AI-generated content. Whether and how that applies to your shop is a question for your legal advisor. The technical side lands on your desk anyway. A note in the image title gets lost, and a badge built into the templates has to be wired up for every single placement. After the next theme update you go hunting for the spots where it vanished.

The solution

You flag an image or video once in the media manager as AI-generated and, if you like, add your own notice. From then on the plugin shows a badge wherever that media item is displayed. The label belongs to the media item, not to the page. Wherever the image travels, the label travels with it.

What's in it for you

  • Flag once, labelled everywhere. Product detail page with gallery and zoom window, product tiles in listings, cross-selling and product sliders, shopping experiences and product videos. You maintain one media item instead of five placements.
  • Many files in one go. Select several media items in the media manager and use the quick action "Set AI labelling" to flag them all at once. Removing the label works the same way.
  • Your wording, not ours. Each media item can carry its own notice of up to 500 characters, say "Created with Midjourney v6". Customers see it as a tooltip on the badge. Without an individual notice, your default legal notice from the configuration applies.
  • Looks like your shop. The badge picks up the border radius, font and colours of your active theme. You choose one of four corners and one of three styles: light background, dark background or outline only.
  • Every sales channel on its own terms. All settings work per sales channel. Your trade channel shows the badge on product pages only, your consumer channel everywhere, a third channel not at all.
  • No template surgery. Install, activate, flag your media. The plugin ships no storefront JavaScript of its own and leaves the image markup of your pages alone.

How the plugin works

The plugin adds two custom fields to the media entity: the switch "Created or modified using AI" and the text field "Legal notice". You maintain both in the media manager, right where you already manage your images. The notice is translatable, so your English channel shows an English text.

In the storefront, the plugin checks every image and video for the flag and places the badge next to it. That covers the product gallery including zoom, product tiles, product videos and the shopping experience elements image, image slider, image gallery and manufacturer logo.

In the plugin configuration you decide what appears:

  • badge text; left empty, customers see "AI-generated" in their own language
  • default legal notice for media without an individual one
  • badge position and badge style
  • whether the legal notice shows as a tooltip
  • one switch each for product detail pages, product tiles, shopping experiences, gallery thumbnails and videos

Gallery thumbnails are off by default. At thumbnail size the badge covers the subject, and the main image right next to it already carries the label.

Typical use cases

  • Fashion shop with AI models: your lookbook shots come from an image generator. You flag the whole series with one quick action, and the badge shows on the product page, the category page and the home page slider.
  • Furniture retailer with room scenes: the sofa is real, the living room around it is generated. A notice such as "Room scene created with AI, product shown as supplied" tells the customer exactly that.
  • Separate channels: your trade customers only need the badge on the product page. In the consumer shop it also appears on every tile, whether you price in GBP or EUR.
  • Headless frontend: a storefront built with Composable Frontends fetches the badge settings through a dedicated Store API route.

Technical facts for your IT team

  • Compatible with Shopware 6.7, PHP 8.2 or higher.
  • No tables of its own. The label is stored in two custom fields on the media entity; Shopware's original tables stay unchanged.
  • The plugin sends no data to external servers. It processes no personal data and sets no cookies.
  • No additional database queries while a page renders. The plugin reads the flag from the media data Shopware loads for the page anyway.
  • No storefront JavaScript of its own. The tooltip uses the tooltip feature that ships with the Shopware storefront.
  • After flagging, the plugin clears the affected product page, listing, shopping experience and cross-selling caches through Shopware's message queue, so a bulk media import is not slowed down.
  • Bulk labelling requires the "Edit media" permission.
  • Dedicated Store API route for headless frontends built with Composable Frontends.
  • Interface in German, English and Dutch.
  • Uninstalling without "keep user data" removes the custom field set; with it, everything stays in place.

To be honest

This plugin is a technical tool, not legal advice. Whether you have to label and in which words is for you and your legal advisor to decide. The plugin does not detect AI images on its own either: anything you do not flag gets no badge. It labels images and videos only, not texts. And on search result pages and in cross-selling based on dynamic product groups, a new label appears only once the cache there expires. If that fits your setup, try it now.
