About the Extension

Your Boxing Day sale goes live tomorrow morning. 240 products should carry a clearance label in the listing. You open the first product, look for the right field, save, move on to the next one. An hour later you are at product 60 and wondering why this has to be so tedious.

The problem

Shopware only ships badges for what the shop already knows about a product: new in, topseller, price reduced. Everything else lives in your head or in a spreadsheet. Organic. Clearance. Online only. Handmade in Sheffield. Every one of those needs a theme change, which means a developer and a slot in their calendar. Or you skip it. And if you skip it, your customer sees forty identical looking tiles in the listing and picks none of them.

The solution

You create your badges once: label, font colour, background colour. After that you pin them where they belong. To a single product, to a whole category, or to a selection of products you put together on the bulk edit page. From then on they appear in the listing, in search results, in cross-selling and on the detail page, exactly where the customer is already looking.

What's in it for you

Your badges look like your shop, not like a plugin. You pick the font colour and the background colour for every badge from a colour picker in the administration. No SCSS, no theme override, no agency hour for a shade of green.

One category instead of every single product. Pin a badge to a category and every product in it carries it. A product that moves into the category tomorrow has the badge straight away. Move it out and the badge is gone. You maintain one place instead of a hundred.

Bulk edit covers everything in between. On its own page you filter by category, pull in every product from it with one click, drop what does not fit, and then apply: add, remove, or replace the whole set. The hour from the opening paragraph turns into a few minutes of work.

Your German shop shows German badges. Label and description are maintained per language through the language switch inside the badge. The plugin interface itself ships in English, German and Dutch.

One shop, several faces. The plugin can be switched per sales channel. Your trade channel can show badges while your consumer shop keeps them hidden, and you switch listing and detail page independently.

How the plugin works

Two entries appear under Catalogues in the administration: Badges and Badge Bulk Edit. Badges is where you create and maintain them. Every badge gets a name, a description, two colours and a switch that lets you take it out of circulation for a while without deleting it.

On the product and on the category a Badges field appears where you select several badges at once. That is all the assignment takes. The description you store on the badge is rendered by the storefront as a tooltip when the customer hovers over it.

Typical use cases

Seasonal campaigns. Create a badge for your summer sale, pin it to the campaign category and remove it in the same place once the campaign ends. You never touch the products themselves.

Food and cosmetics. Organic, vegan, lactose free, palm oil free. These belong on the products permanently and answer in the listing exactly the question that would otherwise send your customer into the detail page.

Retailers with a shop floor. One badge for online only stock and one for items you also keep on the shelf. Both go on through bulk edit across the category in question, and the phone stays quiet.

Delivery and shipping. Dispatched within 24 hours, or oversized item sent by pallet carrier rather than Royal Mail. Facts the customer should see before the click, not in the basket.

Technical facts for your IT team

Shopware 6.7, PHP 8.2 or newer. The plugin creates two tables of its own, swp_custom_badges and swp_custom_badges_translation. Shopware's own tables are left untouched; the assignment lives in a dedicated custom field on product and category.

The plugin sends no data to external servers. No trackers, no licence call home during operation, and no personal data: badges are product data. For your data protection records that makes it a non event.

A listing page costs a constant number of database queries, no matter how many products it shows. For Elasticsearch the plugin registers its field with an explicit mapping so that badge based dynamic product groups keep working; after updating to this version the product index has to be rebuilt once. A broken assignment costs the badge, not the page, and is written to the plugin's own log channel.

For permissions the plugin brings four roles: viewer, editor, creator and deleter. On uninstall you decide: tick keep user data and everything stays in place, leave it unticked and the plugin removes its tables and its custom field for good.

To be honest

This plugin does not assign badges on its own. There is no rule along the lines of brand X gets badge Y, it reads no stock levels and calculates no discounts. You decide which product carries which badge, and that is what bulk edit and category inheritance are there for. Badges are also text rather than images: you cannot upload an icon or a graphic.

If you want badges that set themselves from rules, a rule driven plugin will serve you better. If you want to keep control over the wording and the colour and can spare a few minutes of upkeep, give this one a try.
