Editor Media Extension: insert images straight into the text editor

About the Extension

You are writing a product description and halfway through it needs a size chart. As an image, because that is how it sits in your media manager. The text editor in the administration does bold, italics, bullet points and links. Images it does not do.

The problem

The usual workaround is the source code view. You look up the image in the media manager, copy its address, type an img tag, add width and alignment by hand, then check the shop to see whether it survived. Two minutes per image sounds harmless. Across thirty product texts your afternoon is gone.

It gets worse when you are not the one maintaining the texts. A content editor, an intern or a colleague from marketing is asked to type HTML that goes live in your shop. Usually nothing happens at all: the image is simply left out, because nobody wants to break the page.

The solution

This plugin puts a button into the toolbar of the text editor. One click opens the Shopware media manager and you pick an image. A short dialog then asks for alt text, size and alignment, and “Insert” drops the image exactly where your cursor was. No source code, no copied addresses, no cleaning up afterwards.

What's in it for you

Your content people manage without HTML. Anyone who can use the editor can now place images. That takes the job off your desk and gives it back to the people who write the texts anyway.

You decide the size up front. Four presets cover everyday work: S 25%, M 50%, L 75% and Full. If none of them fit, you type your own width in px, % or em. The image arrives correctly scaled instead of being wrestled into shape in the source code later.

Text and image sit side by side the way you want. Floating left, floating right, centred as its own block, or no alignment at all. Four clicks, four layouts.

The alt text is already filled in. The plugin takes it from your media manager whenever one is stored there. You can overwrite it in the dialog, but you never start from an empty field. Accessibility rarely fails on good intentions, it fails on typing.

The image lands where you are. The plugin remembers the cursor position before the media manager opens and restores it on insert. No more images stuck at the top of the paragraph.

One habit, the same everywhere. The button belongs to the text editor itself, not to a single page. Wherever Shopware shows that editor, the button is there.

How the plugin works

You click the image icon in the toolbar. The Shopware media manager opens as a dialog and you select an image from your library. The options dialog appears straight after: a preview at the top, then the “Alt text” field, five size buttons and four alignment buttons. “Insert” writes the image into your text, “Cancel” discards everything.

What gets inserted is a plain image element with an inline style. It always carries a maximum width of 100 percent so it cannot break out of the layout on narrow screens. If the media item has a title stored, that title travels along as a title attribute. Addresses that do not start with http or https are never inserted.

Typical use cases

Product descriptions with extra graphics. Size charts, care instructions, technical drawings: all things that belong in the description as an image and used to mean hand work in the source code.

Shopping Experiences and landing pages. In CMS text elements you mix text and images freely, without dragging a separate image element into the layout for every graphic.

Category texts that advise. A photo next to the explaining paragraph, floating left, done.

Teams without a technical background. An agency, a part-time student or seasonal staff maintain content, and nobody has to proofread HTML.

Technical facts for your IT team

The plugin is built for Shopware 6.7 (constraint ~6.7.0) and works exclusively in the administration. On the server side it consists of an empty plugin class; the entire feature lives in the administration interface.

It creates no database tables of its own, changes no Shopware tables and writes no custom fields. What you insert is ordinary HTML in a text field that already exists. It ships no permissions of its own: whoever works in the editor sees exactly the media Shopware already shows them.

The plugin sends no data to external servers. It loads no fonts, no scripts and no images from third-party domains, sets no cookies and processes no personal data. Every image comes from your own media manager.

The storefront stays untouched. There are no additional database queries in the shop, no Twig extension and no effect on the HTTP cache. The administration extension is shipped pre-built, so you do not have to compile the administration after installing.

You can uninstall the plugin at any time. No tables and no settings are left behind. Images you already inserted stay visible, because they sit in your content as ordinary HTML and are not rendered by the plugin.

To be honest

This is a small tool, not a content management system. It inserts images, and that is all. You cannot reopen the dialog for an image that is already in the text: to change its size or alignment you delete the image and insert it again. Videos, PDFs and downloads are not covered, the plugin is built for images. And if your team is already comfortable in the source code view, this saves you clicks, not hours.
