Product configurator batch processing: copy options to many products

About the Extension

Add-on plugin – requires the Product Configurator (SwpProductOptionsSix). This plugin works exclusively as an extension of the base plugin Product Configurator (SwpProductOptionsSix). Without the installed, active, and separately purchased base plugin, this plugin has no function.

Forty articles, the same twelve options. You open the first one, click through the option list, save, move on to the second. Somewhere around number twenty you notice that product seven is missing a group. And the new colour arriving next week means starting all over again.

The problem

The product configurator keeps options where they belong: on the individual product. While your range is small, that works fine. On a range of 80 articles that all offer the same colours and sizes, it turns into dull clicking.

Dull clicking produces mistakes. A group forgotten, a product skipped, one article with the wrong order. You rarely spot it while maintaining the data. You spot it when a customer phones because the size they want is not selectable.

The solution

You set up exactly one product properly. That is your template, and the plugin calls it the source product. Then you pick the target products, click Start processing and confirm once. Done.

Five targets or two hundred makes no difference to your work. Only the run takes a little longer.

What's in it for you

One well maintained product covers the whole group. Instead of opening every article, you set up a template carefully and hand it round. On a range with identical colour choices that removes the repeat work on every further article.

You decide on each run how far you go. Without the checkbox the options of the template are added to the target products, existing assignments stay in place and no duplicates appear. With the checkbox the plugin clears the targets first and puts them exactly on the state of the template.

The configurator settings can come along. When overwriting, you also carry over whether the configurator is shown on the product at all, how it is displayed and whether variants inherit it. A range where those settings drifted apart over the years gets straightened out in one run.

You start wherever you happen to be. There is a Batch processing tab in the product options area, and an open batch modal entry in the context menu of the product list. Take the second route and the product from the list is the source automatically, so you only pick the targets.

Your customers see the new choices at once. After writing, the plugin drops the cached product pages of the target products specifically. You do not clear a cache and you do not trigger an indexer.

Overwriting stays under your control. Copying and overwriting are two separate rights in the role management. Staff who should roll out new options but must not delete anything only get the first one. If they tick the box anyway, the run is refused and nothing changes.

How the plugin works

You pick your template in the Source product card and the recipients in the Target products card. Both fields filter as you type and show variants with their properties, so you can pick a single variant on purpose. Every chosen target appears immediately in the list below with product name and product number, and a second click takes it back out.

Start processing opens the confirmation dialog. That is where the checkbox Apply the assignments and configurator settings of the source sits, the most important decision in the whole operation. After Processing the plugin writes the assignments in bundles and reports The assignments were written without errors. The form is empty afterwards, ready for the next round.

The plugin filters the source product out of the target list. A product does not copy its options onto itself.

Typical use cases

Clothing and fashion. A range of 60 articles, the same sizes and the same colour palette everywhere. You maintain one shirt properly and roll it out across the range.

Furniture and upholstery. Fabric groups, wood types, frame colours. One armchair as the template, the matching sofas as targets, one run.

Accessories and made to measure goods. Cuts, edge bands, print options. The same set of choices across a lot of article numbers.

Tidying up an existing catalogue. Over the years products picked up different assignments. With the checkbox ticked you align a whole group firmly to one reviewed template.

Technical facts for your IT team

Shopware 6.7, PHP 8.2 or newer.

Add-on plugin – requires the product configurator (swp/productoptions-six) from version 6.7.12, installed and active.

It creates no tables of its own and writes exclusively into the tables of the product configurator. Shopware core tables stay untouched, and there is no migration that works on the core schema.

The plugin sends no data to external servers. It processes no personal data, it copies product assignments inside your own database.

Deleting and writing run inside one database transaction. If the operation breaks off, the delete is rolled back as well, so no half finished state can appear. Writing happens in bundles of 250 records, and the existing assignments of all target products are fetched with a single query. Afterwards the cache tags of the target products are dropped specifically, not the whole cache.

Execution sits behind an admin API route with a permission check. Errors go to the plugin's own log channel with their full text, while the interface only receives a fixed, translated message without technical detail. The settings hold an on/off switch that refuses a batch run before anything is read or written.

The plugin ships no storefront components, so it does not touch your theme. On uninstall the transferred assignments remain, because they belong to the product configurator. All you lose is the ability to start further batch runs.

To be honest

Without the product configurator this plugin does nothing. It brings no options of its own, it distributes those of the base plugin. And there is no undo: tick the overwrite box and the existing assignments of the target products are gone for good. Try that case on a single, uncritical product the first time.

If you run ten articles in your shop, this plugin is not worth it. From the first product group you have set up by hand twice, it is. Try it on one group and check the result in your shop.
