Variant Expansion in Listings

Show your range, such as colors, sizes or similar, where customers look for it: in the listing.

A jumper available in eight colors looks like one jumper in your category listing. The other seven hide behind a click to the detail page — and that is exactly where shoppers drop off, because they never saw the choice.

Shopware can do this in principle: per product, you can configure variants to be expanded in listings by a property group. But that setting sits deep inside the variants tab of every single product. With 50 articles it is tedious. With 5,000 it is impossible.

This plugin flips it around. You flip the „Expand in listings“ switch once, for example on the „Color“ property group — and from that moment every product with color variants appears once per color in your listings. The jumper eight times, each tile with its own image, its own price, and one click straight to the right variant.

What the plugin does

• Central control: The switch sits on the property group, right where you maintain properties anyway. One click affects your entire catalogue.
• Several groups at once: Expand by color — or by color and size. Every combination then gets its own tile.
• Consistent everywhere: Category listings, search results and search suggestions all show the same picture. Filters, pagination and result counts stay coherent.
• Your exceptions stay exceptions: If you deliberately set a main variant on a product, or chose to display the parent product, that setting wins.
• Fully reversible: Turn the switch off and your listings look exactly as before. The plugin never rewrites your product configuration.

Why this is technically uncritical

The plugin does not interfere with listing or search logic. It only extends the calculation Shopware already performs when indexing each product — using exactly the same semantics as the built-in core feature. Everything downstream is unmodified Shopware standard: the database query, the Elasticsearch index, pagination, CMS product sliders.

For you that means: no template overrides, no slower listings, no surprises with the next Shopware update. No core tables are altered; the plugin ships its own table and removes it again on uninstall.

Switch changes run through the message queue: your click in the admin returns immediately while recalculation happens in the background — targeted at the affected products only, and only for the listing calculation, not as a full reindex.
