About the Extension

Vanished product pages cost you rankings and visitors.

A product is discontinued, deleted or deactivated, and its page returns a 404 error. Visitors from Google, price comparison sites, newsletters or external links end up on an error page and leave, and the page loses its rankings over time. Yet your shop often already has a suitable alternative.

Automatic 301 Redirects closes this gap: the plugin permanently redirects the old address to the best-matching active product. If none fits, it redirects to a matching category, otherwise to the homepage. If the page becomes reachable again later, the plugin removes the redirect on its own.

Features at a glance

  • Product deleted: The redirect is created right away, with no lists to maintain by hand.
  • Product deactivated: The redirect is created right away and removed again when the product is reactivated. Variants that inherit their status from the main product are included.
  • 404 monitor: Records product and category pages that were not found and filters out requests from bots and scanners. From 2 hits, the plugin creates a redirect automatically every hour.
  • Verified redirects: Before creating a redirect, the plugin checks that the old address really is unreachable. If you wish, it also checks all existing redirects every night.
  • Standard or AI: Standard mode works without any external service. AI mode uses OpenAI for more accurate targets.
  • Exactly one redirect per address: No duplicates, and manually created or imported redirects are never overwritten.
  • Overview and list: Key figures, notices when action is required, search, filters, and CSV import and export.
  • Self-cleaning: Automatically created redirects with no hits for 180 days are removed. This can be switched off.

How it works

The plugin builds an index of your products (including name, manufacturer, categories and properties). When a page can no longer be found, it searches the active products for the best match. You set how strict it is with the match accuracy: Careful, Balanced or Generous. In AI mode, a language model also selects the target, provided it is confident enough.

Who it is for

  • Shops with a changing range, such as seasonal goods, fashion, electronics or spare parts
  • Shops that regularly deactivate products and reactivate them later
  • Shops after a relaunch: existing lists of old addresses can be imported via CSV
  • Anyone who has been maintaining redirects by hand

Data protection

The 404 log stores the requested address, the number of hits and the referring page without URL parameters, but no IP addresses. With self-cleaning switched on, entries are deleted after 180 days without a hit.

In the default Standard mode, the plugin sends no data to external services. In AI mode, old addresses and product data (name, meta title, keywords, meta description, manufacturer, categories and properties) are sent to OpenAI.
