Glossary with automatic term linking

About the Extension
What it does
This extension adds a glossary to your shop. You write definitions once, group them into categories, and the storefront presents them as an A to Z index, a category overview or a paginated list. Visitors can filter the list as they type, or run a full search across terms, synonyms and definitions.
Terms link themselves
The part that saves the most work is automatic linking. Once a term is defined, it becomes a link everywhere it appears in your storefront: category texts, product descriptions, shopping experiences, blog content. You do not edit any of that content by hand.
You control how far this goes. Link only the first occurrence on a page or all of them. Set an upper limit per page. Require a minimum word length. Match case or ignore it. Open links in a new tab. Add your own CSS class. Exclude routes where linking is unwanted, such as checkout. Headings, existing links, code blocks and form fields are skipped automatically, and any element marked with the no-glossary class is left alone.Synonyms mean alternative spellings, abbreviations and inflected forms all point at the same entry without duplicate content.
If you would rather place links yourself, a Twig filter is available for use in your own templates.
Built for multiple languages
Every text field is translatable: the term, the short definition, the full definition, synonyms, meta title and description. Two things are less common and matter in practice.
The sorting letter is translated, so an entry filed under K in German appears under C in English rather than being sorted by a letter from another language.
The URL segment is translated too. German visitors get a URL beginning with glossar, English visitors get glossary, and the term itself follows in the matching language. Switching language on a term page takes the visitor to the same term in the new language.
Visible to search engines
Every term receives a readable SEO URL built from an editable slug, so renaming a term does not change its address. Entries appear in the sitemap, each page carries a canonical tag, and every term is marked up as DefinedTerm within a DefinedTermSet so search engines can read the structure.
Because glossary pages are internally linked from your existing content, they gain relevance without any manual link building.
Content elements
Three elements are available in the shopping experiences editor:
- A to Z index: the full glossary, optionally restricted to one category, with a configurable column count
- Single term: one chosen entry, or a different one each day
- Latest entries: the most recently added terms as a grid
Each element has its own colour setting, so it fits light and dark sections without custom CSS.
Administration
Entries are managed in a dedicated area under Content. The overview offers filters by category and status, inline editing, bulk selection and sorting by term, letter or view count. Categories can be nested, and a built in check prevents a category from becoming its own parent.
Entries carry an image, related terms, linked products and custom fields. Related terms are symmetrical: linking A to B also links B to A, so you never maintain both sides.
Slugs are generated from the term and checked for collisions before saving, with a clear message if one is already taken.
Access rights are separated into viewing, editing, creating and deleting, so editors can maintain content without broader permissions.
Import and export
Glossary entries and categories appear as source entities in the standard import and export screen. Existing content can be brought in as CSV and exported the same way, which matters if your definitions already live in a spreadsheet or another system.
Headless
A Store API endpoint returns glossary entries with filtering and paging, so app and headless storefronts can use the same content as the standard storefront.
Good to know
The A to Z index renders up to 1000 entries on one page, and search returns up to 100 matches. Both are deliberate limits that keep page rendering and query time predictable on large glossaries.
Automatic linking is off by default. Turn it on once your first entries are in place.
Example content covering 30 wine and gastronomy terms in German and English is available as a separate companion extension, useful for evaluating the layouts before writing your own definitions.
