Detect delivery country, currency and tax automatically

Installation

1. Install and activate the plugin.
2. Open Extensions → My extensions → Configure.

Ready in five minutes

The defaults suit most shops. All you need to check is that your countries are set up.

1. Settings → Countries: the countries you deliver to must be active, available for shipping, and assigned to the sales channel.
2. Settings → Shipping methods: create one method per country with a rule such as "Shipping address country is Austria". Without such rules every country sees the same shipping method.
3. In the plugin, under For testing only, enter a country code such as AT and open the shop in a private window. That checks everything without a VPN.
4. Clear the test field afterwards. While a country is in there, every real visitor is treated as if they were in that country.

The settings

General

• Behaviour: Ask the visitor first shows a notice and changes nothing until they agree. Apply silently sets the values with no notice. Redirect sends the visitor to the matching domain and needs an entry under Mapping.
• Set delivery country: drives tax rate, gross prices, shipping costs and available shipping methods. This is the important one.
• Set currency: only takes effect for countries that have a currency under Mapping.
• Remember the choice: how long the visitor's decision lasts before they are asked again.
• Search engine bots: leave this on. Google then always sees the shop default and your indexed prices stay stable.

Cookies and consent

• Run right away: the default.
• Only after cookie consent: nothing happens until the visitor accepts the "Country and currency" group in the consent manager.
• Without a cookie: the country is detected and applied on the server on every page call. Prices are correct from the first page and nothing is stored on the device. No notice and no redirect in this mode.

Detection

• How to detect the visitor: by location, by browser language, or by location with the browser language as backup.
• Server headers: leave this on. Reads CF-IPCountry, GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE and similar. Cloudflare and most hosters provide these already.
• MaxMind database: optional. Path to a local .mmdb file, requires the geoip2/geoip2 package. A wrong path does nothing and the shop carries on normally.
• External service: off by default, and for a shop in the EU it should stay that way. Switched on, the visitor IP is sent to a third party, which then belongs in your privacy policy.

Mapping

• Country to currency: one line per country, for example CH=CHF. Countries you do not list keep the shop currency. The currency must be assigned to the sales channel.
• Country to shop domain: only needed if you want to redirect or offer a link, for example AT=https://shop.at.
• Browser language to shop domain: used when the detected country has no domain of its own.

Appearance

• Position: bar top, bar bottom, modal in the middle, small box bottom right or bottom left.
• Country selector in the header: shows the shippable countries next to language and currency. Clear the cache after switching it on, the header is cached separately through ESI.
• Colours: leave them empty and the notice follows your theme.
• Visitor must choose before continuing: blocks the page until yes or no is chosen. Use with care, it stands between every visitor and your shop.

Texts

Headline, text and buttons are snippet fields. The wording lives in the snippet sets, so one per language. The placeholders %country% and %currency% are replaced.

If something does not appear

• No notice: did you rebuild the storefront? bin/build-storefront.sh is required, theme:compile alone does not build JavaScript.
• No notice after rebuilding: the visitor already decided. Delete the zaiba-auto-local cookie or open a new private window.
• Nothing changes: is the country assigned to the sales channel and available for shipping?
• Country selector missing: clear the cache. With fewer than two shippable countries it is deliberately not shown.
• A setting has no effect: run bin/console cache:clear, pages are cached.
