The European netID Foundation was founded in March 2018 by the media group RTL Germany, ProSiebenSat.1 and United Internet. Its goal is to establish netID as a single sign-on as a European alternative to US providers.

With netID, users can organize their consent for the useage of Internet services in a data protection-compliant and transparent manner in a so-called privacy center. For this purpose, the foundation has developed an open standard that enables users from all industries to access all Internet offers of the partners of the European netID Foundation with the same log-in data.


Currently, netID has over 38 million accounts, which corresponds to a reach of approx. 60% of German online users.
