Yesterday's exchange rates cost trust — and sales in foreign currencies
If you sell internationally, customers expect prices in their own currency. When the currency rates in your shop look stale or implausible, trust often breaks before the cart is full. Shops that offer foreign currencies either update exchange rates by hand or run on last week's factors.
In B2B and export, every percentage point counts: margin, competitiveness, credibility. Outdated conversions look unprofessional, and you carry the risk. You need rates that arrive reliably, stay traceable, and leave you in control.
How CurrentCurrencies works
CurrentCurrencies fetches the reference rates of the ECB and writes them into your shop. The source is public — no manual export, no third-party rate portals, no API key.
A scheduled task updates every currency where automation is on. In the Administration you start the same run manually: for a single currency, or as a bulk update for all currencies with automatic updates enabled. And if your operations prefer to schedule it themselves, you hang the console command into your own cron job — then the fetch runs whenever it fits your workflow. You enable or disable the plugin per sales channel.
Control per currency, including margin
Not every currency should behave the same. You turn automatic updates on or off per currency. In the extended overview you see status, last factor, last change, and the configured buffer.
The buffer adds a percentage markup to the imported factor — e.g. ten percent for margin or fluctuation, without recalculating by hand. You also set a maximum threshold in percent: if a new rate deviates from the current exchange rate in your shop by more than that value, it is not saved. No outlier slips into your pricing logic unnoticed.
Traceable in the Administration and in the log
Each currency shows when it was last updated. On top of that, the plugin writes its own log file: it records which fetch ran when, and which rate failed the threshold. That makes it easier to align with accounting or sales, and turns follow-up questions into something you can check.
What the plugin deliberately does not do
The default currency must be EUR — the ECB publishes its reference rates against the euro. Only currencies that already exist in your shop and appear in the ECB data are updated. CurrentCurrencies deliberately does not create new currencies: nothing appears in your currency management that you did not set up yourself.
Technical facts for your IT
The fetch runs in the background, not in the customer request. The plugin talks to the public ECB rate file only, sends no data with it, and processes no personal data. Writes go through the Data Abstraction Layer. It does not override storefront templates — for custom output, the Twig functions netiGetCurrentCurrency and netiGetAllCurrencies are available.
In use since 2020
CurrentCurrencies has been in the Shopware Store since June 2020 and runs from Shopware 6.2 up to the current version. The extension is built for shop operators and agencies that sell internationally and need current prices without daily manual work.
Install it, check that the default currency is EUR, enable your sales channel, switch on the currencies you want, and trigger a first update. Maintained factors become current rates you can trace and steer.

Compatibility
Our extension is generally compatible with all our own extensions, provided that the respective functionalities do not conflict with each other.
For third-party extensions, including Shopware’s premium extensions, we cannot guarantee unrestricted compatibility. Should any issues arise in this context, our support team will be happy to assist you.
Naturally, when new Shopware versions are released, we ensure that our extension is made compatible with them in a timely manner.

In most cases, it is necessary for us to have unrestricted access to your shop’s administration in order to analyze and fix the problem. Additionally, it may be required for you to provide us with FTP or ideally SSH credentials for your server. Please note that setting up and later removing these accesses is your responsibility.
For a smooth troubleshooting process, we recommend conducting support in a staging or development environment. This allows issues to be reproduced under controlled conditions without affecting your live shop.
