Heavy goods, unclear shipping costs: show the total weight in the cart
If you sell furniture, building materials, beverages or other bulky goods, you know the question customers ask right before they buy: what does shipping cost? When freight costs depend on weight, customers want to know how heavy their basket is as early as the cart. Without that information, questions pile up in your support inbox, and some customers abandon the order because they cannot judge the shipping price.
With BasketWeight you solve this directly. The plugin calculates the total weight of the order from the product weight and the quantity of each line item and shows it where the customer makes the decision: in the cart and at checkout. The weight is always output in kilograms with two decimal places, in the number format of the respective language. 12.5 kg becomes "12,50 kg" on the German storefront and "12.50 kg" on the English one.
Show it where you need it
You decide where the weight appears. You switch each output on or off individually in the administration.
- Cart and checkout: With the option "Active for sales channel", the shop shows the total weight below the item list.
- OffCanvas cart: Optionally, the weight also appears in the slide-in mini cart, so customers see it after every item they add.
- Order documents: The weight is added to the totals table of the documents and appears on the delivery note. Your warehouse and your customers see at a glance how heavy the package is.
- Emails and custom templates: Even when a display is switched off, the variable neti_next_basket_weight.totalWeight remains available. In confirmation emails, you use it as summary.neti_next_basket_weight.totalWeight.
Weight in the export for your logistics
Since version 7.1, you can output the order weight as an additional column in export profiles. In the configuration, you select the profiles that should receive the column and set the column name. By default, it is called basket_weight. This way, the weight ends up directly in the file that your carrier or your merchandise management system reads. The column is available in profiles with the source "Order".
Configurable per sales channel
If you run several sales channels, you configure BasketWeight separately for each one. Your B2B shop shows the weight in the cart and on the delivery note, while your consumer shop perhaps shows it only in the OffCanvas. All options are switched off after installation. Your shop only changes when you deliberately activate a display.
How accurate the result is
The plugin multiplies the product weight by the quantity for each product line item and adds up the values to the total weight. Vouchers, shipping items and other line items that are not products are not included. For a correct result, you need to maintain the weight in your master data, including for variants such as different sizes. Whether you enter the weight with or without packaging is up to you. If a product has no weight, the plugin calculates with 0 kg. So before going live, check that all items relevant for shipping have a weight.
Set up in a few minutes
You install BasketWeight via the extensions in the administration, activate it and switch on the displays you want for your sales channel in the plugin configuration. The plugin runs with Shopware 6.7 and PHP 8.2 or higher. You do not need a separate weight management, because it uses the weight field that every product in Shopware already has.

Compatibility
Our extension is generally compatible with all our own extensions, provided that the respective functionalities do not conflict with each other.
For third-party extensions, including Shopware’s premium extensions, we cannot guarantee unrestricted compatibility. Should any issues arise in this context, our support team will be happy to assist you.
Naturally, when new Shopware versions are released, we ensure that our extension is made compatible with them in a timely manner.

In most cases, it is necessary for us to have unrestricted access to your shop’s administration in order to analyze and fix the problem. Additionally, it may be required for you to provide us with FTP or ideally SSH credentials for your server. Please note that setting up and later removing these accesses is your responsibility.
For a smooth troubleshooting process, we recommend conducting support in a staging or development environment. This allows issues to be reproduced under controlled conditions without affecting your live shop.
