Google Translate: your shop in 81 languages, no language packs to maintain

About the Extension
Someone in Lisbon finds your product through search, lands on the detail page and reads English. They skim the delivery costs, half understand the returns policy and click back. Maintaining a full language pack for that one visitor makes no sense. For ten markets at once, even less.
The problem
A proper language pack in Shopware is real work. Create the language, map the domain, maintain the snippets, then translate every product, every category, every CMS block. For a market you serve seriously, that is exactly the right thing to do. For countries you post two parcels a month to, the effort never pays for itself. So the shop stays monolingual, and part of your traffic never reads to the end.
The solution
The plugin puts Google Translate into the top bar of your shop. Your visitor picks a language from a list you control, and Google translates the page inside their browser. You maintain no text for it. There are 81 languages to choose from, Afrikaans through to Zulu, and you decide per sales channel which of them are offered at all.
What's in it for you
Nothing extra to maintain. No product texts, no snippets, no CMS pages to translate. Add 300 articles tomorrow and they are available in every language you enabled, the same afternoon.
Google loads only after consent. The plugin brings its own entry into the Shopware cookie consent dialogue. Until your visitor accepts it, the page requests nothing from translate.google.com. Withdraw the consent and the translator disappears again.
Every sales channel decides for itself. On in the B2C shop, off in the B2B channel, with different language lists. One switch per channel, no uninstall, no second plugin.
Your customer does not drop out at checkout. The minimal header used on checkout pages carries the widget too. Anyone who reads their way to the payment step in their own language should not have to guess there.
Set up in under 5 minutes. Install the plugin, pick the sales channel, tick the languages, save. There are exactly two settings, so there is nothing else to work out.
How the plugin works
The plugin renders a small container in the top bar and in the minimal checkout header. Your language selection travels as a data attribute in the HTML, not inside an inline script. That is not cosmetic: consent tools neutralise inline scripts without removing them from the page, and a setting declared there simply stops existing. Once your visitor accepts, the plugin JavaScript pulls in Google Translate and builds the language picker. It reads the source language from the rendered page itself, so you never enter it a second time.
If your shop runs one language and one currency, Shopware normally hides the top bar altogether. The plugin then provides it and calls the standard slot for the language switcher inside it, so other plugins keep their place.
Typical use cases
Cross border shipping. You post from Manchester with Royal Mail and DPD to Ireland, France and the Netherlands. Tick French and Dutch and you are covered; at those volumes a dedicated language pack is not worth it.
One shop, two audiences. Your B2C channel shows the translator for walk in traffic from abroad. Your B2B channel with its curated English content stays untouched, because the switch there is off.
Measure first, invest later. You want to know whether Spain and Poland actually convert before you pay a translator. Turn the widget on, look at a quarter of numbers, then decide.
Technical facts for your IT team
Shopware 6.7 (shopware/core and shopware/storefront each at ~6.7.0), PHP 8.2 or newer. The plugin needs the Shopware storefront and is not intended for headless channels. Last installed, booted and tested against Shopware 6.7.13.1.
It creates no tables of its own, alters no Shopware table and writes no custom fields. The only thing stored is two configuration values in system_config, held separately per sales channel.
No request leaves your server for Google. The script is fetched in the visitor's browser, and only once the googleTranslateSix cookie is set, which the Shopware consent dialogue manages (30 day lifetime). From that point Google sees the visitor's request, exactly as with any third party script you embed. The plugin itself logs nothing, stores no personal data and builds no profiles.
Page rendering causes no additional database queries. The configuration comes from the system_config cache, the widget is part of normal template rendering, and the HTTP cache keeps working.
On uninstall you decide in the Shopware dialogue whether your settings survive or are removed completely. An update from an older version carries your existing channel switch over automatically, so you reconfigure nothing.
To be honest
Machine translation is not a curated language pack. Google makes decisions about product names, units and legal texts that you do not control. For your main market, a proper translation in Shopware stays the better answer. This plugin is built for the markets around it.
Search engines will not find the translated pages. Google translates inside your visitor's browser, so no separate URLs and no hreflang entries are created. If you want visibility in another language, you need a real language pack.
It translates words, not your shop. A price in GBP stays a price in GBP, because currency belongs to the sales channel and the translator never touches it. Install it on a test shop, enable one channel and look at it before you go live.
