About the Extension
Mandatory from 2 August 2026: label AI-generated images in your shop
The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) makes you, the shop operator, a deployer within the meaning of the law: AI-generated or substantially AI-edited images showing realistic-looking persons, places or events must be visibly disclosed from 2 August 2026 — at the latest when the customer first sees the image (Art. 50(4) and (5) EU AI Act). Violations carry fines of up to EUR 15 million or 3% of worldwide annual turnover (Art. 99(4) EU AI Act).
This extension handles the implementation for you — from the badge on the product image to the compliance documentation.
Compliant in three steps
- Set the status: Maintain the AI status on the media item — individually, directly on the product image, via bulk marking across whole media folders or via CSV import. C2PA/IPTC metadata detected on upload provides a suggestion; the quick-start assistant explains every status and the legal context.
- The badge appears automatically: On product listings, product pages, in the image zoom and in Shopping Experiences — also on embedded YouTube/Vimeo videos and native video, clearly visible from first exposure.
- Export your evidence: AI register as PDF or CSV and an auditable compliance dossier (coverage, register, change history, attestation) as PDF — ready for audits, your data protection officer or your lawyer.
AI labelling that thinks along
- Four statuses following the logic of the EU AI Act: AI-generated, AI-manipulated (substantial), Standard editing only, Not AI — standard retouching stays badge-free
- Labelling for images, native video media, video CMS elements (YouTube/Vimeo) and AI-generated product text; a product-wide disclosure summarises which content types — including audio — are AI-labelled
- C2PA/IPTC metadata (e.g. from DALL·E, Firefly, Midjourney) is detected on upload and shown as a suggestion; optional automatic apply above an adjustable confidence — you keep the decision, original files remain untouched
- Default AI status per media folder, bulk marking and CSV import; a review queue groups automatic suggestions to accept or reject
A badge that fits your shop
- Configurable per sales channel: badge text and per-status labels, colours (background/text), size, style (icon/text/both), tooltip and optional display of the AI tool used
- Visibility toggleable per placement (listing, product detail gallery, CMS elements, video), configurable status scope, custom badge icon from the media library
- Optional machine-readable schema.org annotation (microdata) for products with AI-labelled content and a Store API endpoint for headless/PWA storefronts
Chatbot disclosure under Art. 50(1)
- "You are chatting with an AI assistant" — before the first interaction, directly at the widget, attachable to any provider via CSS selector (including asynchronously loading widgets)
- An admin checklist warns you when branding the bot under your own name additionally makes you a provider (Art. 25 EU AI Act)
Stay in control and automate
- Coverage dashboard in the admin: marked and unmarked media and texts per status at a glance
- Complete change log (who, when, which source: manual, scan, auto, CSV, bulk) with undo and automatic 6-month cleanup
- Notification when too many media remain unmarked and an optional warning when activating products with unmarked AI-eligible images
- Rule Builder condition "AI media status", Flow Builder action "Set AI media status" and a customer-facing CMS element "AI Transparency Info" for Shopping Experiences
Why this extension?
- No external services, no cookies: Everything runs inside your shop — the storefront loads no third-party scripts and sets no cookies, so there is nothing extra to declare
- Unobtrusive and accessible: The badge sits on top of the image, never blocks clicks and is labelled for screen readers; the default colours meet the WCAG AA contrast ratio (5.1:1)
- Built for updates: Texts, icon and decision logic are prepared for the final Commission guidelines
- Deliberately no AI auto-detection: No error-prone heuristics — the status decision stays traceable and with you
- ACL privileges for the module and AI register, clean uninstall (removes AI labels from media and texts unless user data is kept)
- Compatible with Shopware 6.6 and 6.7, fully bilingual (English/German)
Transparency note: This extension supports deployer transparency obligations under Art. 50 EU AI Act (disclosure of AI-generated and AI-manipulated content, chatbot notice). Machine-readable marking of outputs (Art. 50(2)) remains the responsibility of the respective AI provider. No legal advice; the European Commission's guidelines are still pending.

Ready in five minutes
- Install and activate: Install and activate the extension via the Extension Manager. The quick-start assistant in the admin guides you through the first steps.
- Configure labelling: Enable labelling per sales channel in the extension settings and customise the badge (text, colours, size, style, position, tooltip, custom icon, visibility per placement).
- Maintain the AI status: Individually in the media library or directly on the product image, via bulk marking per media folder, via a default status per folder (folder defaults) or via CSV import. C2PA/IPTC metadata detected on upload provides a suggestion; the review queue groups automatic suggestions to accept or reject. Media with status "AI-generated" or "AI-manipulated" automatically receive the badge.
- Chatbot disclosure (optional): Enable it in the settings and enter the CSS selector of your chat widget (e.g. #chat-widget). The notice appears at the widget before the first interaction.
- Provide evidence: Under Content → EU AI Act Compliance, check the coverage dashboard, record all AI systems in use in the AI register and export them as PDF or CSV when needed — the compliance dossier bundles coverage, register and change history as a PDF.
Bulk marking, folder defaults and CSV import speed up the initial maintenance of large media libraries. All settings apply per sales channel.
1.0.2 6.6.0.0 - 6.7.16.0
- Badges stay in their corner even when a theme adds the Bootstrap class ratio to the image container (previously the badge was stretched over the whole image)
- Badges sit on the visible image area instead of the corner of the image container, also when the image is rendered smaller than its container (e.g. portrait images in the product gallery and listing)
- In the product gallery, the slider dots no longer cover badges at the bottom edge of the image
1.0.1 6.6.0.0 - 6.7.16.0
- Shopping Experiences, category and landing pages as well as product listings show changed AI labels immediately instead of serving the old state until the HTTP cache expires
- Badges in the product gallery stay on their image even when a theme changes the positioning of the gallery slides (previously they piled up on the first image)
- Image galleries in Shopping Experiences now follow the "Show on CMS elements" setting instead of "Show on product detail page"
- Manual changes to the AI status of media are now recorded in the change log
1.0.0 6.6.0.0 - 6.7.16.0
- Initial release
- Visible transparency badge for AI-generated and AI-manipulated product images (position, size, colours and scope configurable per sales channel)
- Automatic detection of AI metadata (C2PA/IPTC) on media upload with a confidence score, optional auto-apply above a configurable threshold and a review queue
- AI status maintainable directly in the media library, on the product image and via bulk action; tool reference either picked from the AI register or entered as free text
- AI register for the AI systems in use incl. CSV import plus CSV and PDF export; compliance dossier as PDF (each in the admin user's language)
- Disclosure for AI-generated product texts incl. "editorially reviewed" labelling; chatbot disclosure in the storefront
- Folder policies for default statuses, Flow Builder action, Rule Builder condition and a warning when activating products with unlabelled images
- Tamper-evident append-only change log with automatic cleanup after six months
- "AI transparency notice" CMS element for Shopping Experiences; structured data extends the schema.org product
- All storefront texts maintainable via snippets (translatable per language, adjustable per sales channel)
