  • Labelling also for native video media and video CMS elements (YouTube/Vimeo)

About the Extension

Mandatory from 2 August 2026: label AI-generated images in your shop

The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) makes you, the shop operator, a deployer within the meaning of the law: AI-generated or substantially AI-edited images showing realistic-looking persons, places or events must be visibly disclosed from 2 August 2026 — at the latest when the customer first sees the image (Art. 50(4) and (5) EU AI Act). Violations carry fines of up to EUR 15 million or 3% of worldwide annual turnover (Art. 99(4) EU AI Act).

This extension handles the implementation for you — from the badge on the product image to the compliance documentation.

Compliant in three steps

  1. Set the status: Maintain the AI status on the media item — individually, directly on the product image, via bulk marking across whole media folders or via CSV import. C2PA/IPTC metadata detected on upload provides a suggestion; the quick-start assistant explains every status and the legal context.
  2. The badge appears automatically: On product listings, product pages, in the image zoom and in Shopping Experiences — also on embedded YouTube/Vimeo videos and native video, clearly visible from first exposure.
  3. Export your evidence: AI register as PDF or CSV and an auditable compliance dossier (coverage, register, change history, attestation) as PDF — ready for audits, your data protection officer or your lawyer.

AI labelling that thinks along

  • Four statuses following the logic of the EU AI Act: AI-generated, AI-manipulated (substantial), Standard editing only, Not AI — standard retouching stays badge-free
  • Labelling for images, native video media, video CMS elements (YouTube/Vimeo) and AI-generated product text; a product-wide disclosure summarises which content types — including audio — are AI-labelled
  • C2PA/IPTC metadata (e.g. from DALL·E, Firefly, Midjourney) is detected on upload and shown as a suggestion; optional automatic apply above an adjustable confidence — you keep the decision, original files remain untouched
  • Default AI status per media folder, bulk marking and CSV import; a review queue groups automatic suggestions to accept or reject

A badge that fits your shop

  • Configurable per sales channel: badge text and per-status labels, colours (background/text), size, style (icon/text/both), tooltip and optional display of the AI tool used
  • Visibility toggleable per placement (listing, product detail gallery, CMS elements, video), configurable status scope, custom badge icon from the media library
  • Optional machine-readable schema.org annotation (microdata) for products with AI-labelled content and a Store API endpoint for headless/PWA storefronts

Chatbot disclosure under Art. 50(1)

  • "You are chatting with an AI assistant" — before the first interaction, directly at the widget, attachable to any provider via CSS selector (including asynchronously loading widgets)
  • An admin checklist warns you when branding the bot under your own name additionally makes you a provider (Art. 25 EU AI Act)

Stay in control and automate

  • Coverage dashboard in the admin: marked and unmarked media and texts per status at a glance
  • Complete change log (who, when, which source: manual, scan, auto, CSV, bulk) with undo and automatic 6-month cleanup
  • Notification when too many media remain unmarked and an optional warning when activating products with unmarked AI-eligible images
  • Rule Builder condition "AI media status", Flow Builder action "Set AI media status" and a customer-facing CMS element "AI Transparency Info" for Shopping Experiences

Why this extension?

  • No external services, no cookies: Everything runs inside your shop — the storefront loads no third-party scripts and sets no cookies, so there is nothing extra to declare
  • Unobtrusive and accessible: The badge sits on top of the image, never blocks clicks and is labelled for screen readers; the default colours meet the WCAG AA contrast ratio (5.1:1)
  • Built for updates: Texts, icon and decision logic are prepared for the final Commission guidelines
  • Deliberately no AI auto-detection: No error-prone heuristics — the status decision stays traceable and with you
  • ACL privileges for the module and AI register, clean uninstall (removes AI labels from media and texts unless user data is kept)
  • Compatible with Shopware 6.6 and 6.7, fully bilingual (English/German)

Transparency note: This extension supports deployer transparency obligations under Art. 50 EU AI Act (disclosure of AI-generated and AI-manipulated content, chatbot notice). Machine-readable marking of outputs (Art. 50(2)) remains the responsibility of the respective AI provider. No legal advice; the European Commission's guidelines are still pending.
