About the Extension

Purpose of the plugin

International online shops need a smart way to automatically direct visitors to the right shop or sales channel – depending on their location or language. This is not possible with the standard Shopware version, which often results in customers ending up in the wrong country or with the wrong currency.

We have therefore developed a plugin that solves this challenge:

Redirection via IP or language detection

he plugin automatically detects the visitor’s country using an integrated IP database (geo-targeting) or, alternatively, via the language set in the browser. Depending on the configuration, the shop can respond in different ways:

Direct Redirection
The user is automatically redirected to the appropriate shop or domain without being asked. This takes them directly to the sales channel intended for them.
Redirection with selection (modal)
The user is automatically redirected to the appropriate shop or domain without being asked. This takes them directly to the sales channel intended for them.
Set delivery country only
Alternatively, the redirect can be omitted entirely. In this case, the user remains on the current shop page, whilst the appropriate delivery country is automatically selected in the background. This ensures that prices, taxes, currencies and delivery charges are displayed correctly.

Test mode & simulation
An integrated test mode is available for easy verification of settings. This allows you to simulate specific countries or IP addresses in order to safely test the behaviour of forwarding in the live system.

Wie alle Plugins, die wir von ACRIS nutzen, ist dieses Plugin sehr nützlich und funktioniert tadellos.
Die Einrichtung hatte mich ein wenig überfordert (deswegen ausnahmsweise nicht überall 5 Sterne ;) aber der wirklich extrem gute Support hat uns wie immer sofort, sehr freundlich und unkomliziert weitergeholfen.

How does the plugin work in connection with Shopware's HTTP cache?

The plugin has two different types of integration:

Directly when loading the page (default)
Loading via AJAX

Which of the two options should be used can be configured in the plugin settings. By default, the first option is activated.
If option 1 "Directly when loading the page" is selected, the HTTP cache is not active on the first page load. This is because, on the first page load, it is checked from which country/with which browser language the customer is accessing the page.
With option 2 "Loading via AJAX," the check for country and browser language is only performed after the customer has already accessed the page. In this case, the HTTP cache is active on the first page load.

If the plugin is activated, the value of the cookie "sw-cache-hash" is changed depending on the values of the two functional cookies "acris_shop_switch_checked" and "acris_shop_switch_country_id." Shopware serves a different page from the HTTP cache depending on the value of the Shopware cookie "sw-cache-hash." This ensures that the modal window or a direct redirection is only displayed or executed when it is truly necessary and desired.

How can I translate the names of the languages in the modal window?

The names of the languages are not translated in Shopware (sounds strange, but it's true). That's why we don't use the names of the languages. We therefore use the names of the localisations. How can you translate the localisations? Under Settings > Extensions > IP Targeting, Language Recognition > Localisations.

Is a Maxmind account and licence key required to use the IP Targeting Module?

No. An IP database is already supplied with the plugin. A new database for the latest Shopware major version is provided several times a year via a plugin update.

How does the plugin behave with bot requests - Google/Bing etc.?

The plugin checks the user agents of the bots. If a bot is recognised, no query is made via the modal window and no direct redirection is made by the plugin.
